All Cullen jokes aside, some betting and fantasy hockey sources are picking
the Rangers as 4-1 odds to win the Eastern Conference (or better). I've been
following the Blueshirts for 40 years which means I never have false hope
but the roster does look promising this year. Anyone have opinions on how
the team is going to do this year? Playoffs? If so, how deep?

I don't like the defense very much. Without Ortmeyer, even less. If they
play the same type of team defense that had them run that almost miracle
like stretch to get into 6th place in the conference, and if Lundqvist
stands on his head from early on in the season, I can see them winning the
division. Not a given but I think they'll be in a battle for it. I think if
everything goes well and they aren't plagued by any major injuries, I can
see them going to the Conference Finals possibly.

But really, it's far too early to tell. There are many changes to the lineup
and you never know what changes could occur during the regular season. Or
which rookie if any will make a significant impact.

A lot of stuff to watch for this season.

Well I like there 2nd and 3rd lines more than I did early last season by
far. If they stick with Straka-Callahan-Prucha, I find it to be a very
interesting line that can do significant offensive damage... IF it works of
course. Avery-Drury-Shanahan I like MUCH more than last years second line
with Cullen. The Jagr line is the Jagr line. As long as Hossa maintains his
forechecking dominance, it will be a dominant puck possession line. The 4th
line will continue to be a good 4th line.

I hope the PP will be better with Gomez and Drury.

I anticipate the PK to be worse.

Like I said, as long as Lundqvist stands on his head from earlier in the
season, they'll win more games than last season if things click. I see them
as a team that is still below Ottawa but otherwise one of the teams to
compete for any spot below that.

Worse than when the Mets signed Vince Coleman and Rick Cerrone?

Baseball is only kind of a professional sport and the Mets certainly
weren't a professional organization the last time I checked.

Well, they're certainly not professional like an NHL team.

I bet they get really jealous when they see how much teams like
Edmonton and Calgary take in every year.

Baseball is a pasttime. Hockey is a sport. Though Bettman kinda did
away with the professional part.

Quick thoughts - I can't even bring myself to hope for any sort of effort against the Islanders anymore. Even when they won last year, there wasn't any indication from them that it was important to them at all. Tonight it looked like they just wanted to go home. Jagr'...

Anaheim in 6, Ottawa in 6 - And the Ducks take home the Cup.

How was that any different.... - How was that waved-off goal in Buffalo any different than the one in game 1 against the Rangers? Why did that one count, and this one didn't? By the way, VS. is absolutely terrible. Joe Beninati? Why don't they just get Rick Jeanerette or some other....

Scary good - More "scary" than "good".

Teeeeee-mu Selanne! - And Hockey Town is stunned. Woooo-Hooo!!
