What's going on there in the "Hub"? Why can't this team get people
out to watch? Most of the reasons for boycotting the team appear to
be gone, yet they can't draw flies. Is this still Jacobs resentment,
or have they lost fans for good? Is the old guard too cynical to come
back? Basically JJ has done what the fans wanted him to do and he is
getting this result. I'd be pissed if I were him. Why spend to the
cap if your fans don't seem to care? Easy for me to say, sitting a
thousand miles away and unable to come out, but I'm worried that if
Boston Hockey Fan's don't get off their collective asses (read
wallets) soon, this rebuilding will come to a screeching halt. >> Stay informed about: 13,407 |

All true...but the Sox don't have any problem moving tickets for twice
as many home games, and twice as many seats.
JJ has beaten the hockey market down in Boston...now he will have to
work to clean it up. It won't happen overnight.
Fans support winning teams...case in point - the Buffalo Sabres. >> Stay informed about: 13,407 |

I just read that attendance is down across the league but I think everyone
has valid points as far as the Bruins are concerned: JJ screwing us around
and ticket prices haven't helped the situation, but the product isn't
exactly exciting to watch and that's the killer. >> Stay informed about: 13,407 |

I respectfully disagree. Charles Wong and Wirtz outdistance JJ by a
mile.
A backup goalie straight off the bench as your GM? After 40 days with
a new GM? A Chinese guy running your hockey operation with no
experience other than running software companies?
Wirtz - the old "no games on TV so my gate is higher". His team hasn't
threatened to make the playoffs in how long?
Sorry, there is doubt. JJ is a solid #28 on my list, or #3 depending
on how you look at it. >> Stay informed about: 13,407 |

Money's a huge factor. As is the social disease know as "instant
gradification".
Blaming it on the owner is short-sighted. Jacobs was the owner when it
was
hard to get a ticket. The year before the lockout the B's were a 100
point team.
People don't really show up until the Pats season is over. If the Pats
were 2-10
the B's would probably be doing a little better at the gate. Boston's
like any
other U.S. town, only follow the team if it wins. >> Stay informed about: 13,407 |

I agree with people supporting a winner...but I don't think it is
necessarily short sighted to blame ownership too. Even during the
winning years, the B's were run in a way that many fans found to be,
umm, un-good? (I'm hungover...so cut me some slack...lol)
Were the fans right? Doesn't matter...fans pay the freight. Add in the
last couple of years where the B's appeared to be a rudderless ship, the
Sox becoming uber-trendy, the Pats becoming a force...and what does it
add up to?
An empty Fleet Center, or whatever they call it now (I absolutely REFUSE
to call it the Garden. It isn't, and it never will be. Not to mention
in two years it will be called something else anyway.) >> Stay informed about: 13,407 |

I wonder what he has to do to move up on that list? He has spent to
the cap, relaced old management with new, overhauled the scouting,
even the Garden underwent a facelift. Then the franchise signed top
quality free agents (Chara and Savard beat Lapointe and Zamnov pretty
clearly). Ownership/management has done a pretty good job, and the
team starting to win, so when does the attendance start to reflect
that? When is JJ no longer the villian? >> Stay informed about: 13,407 |

I actually don't think he's #28 in reality. Just saying he isn't the
worst. You could throw NYR, Philly, Vancouver as good hockey cities
where management at the top that has let certain things go on too long
and sent a franchise into a real rut for a prolonged period. >> Stay informed about: 13,407 |

The Garden was demolished years ago. ;) >> Stay informed about: 13,407 |

Toronto, have they ever recovered from Harold Ballard?
Do you remember how bad the Wings were through to the late 80's? There
was 20 years of terrible hockey in "Hockey Town". >> Stay informed about: 13,407 |

TD Banknorth, smarta...
I was thinking of the old Garden, with 14,500 jammed in there, banging
on ductwork and steel posts blocking their view. Screaming so loud
you couldn't hear the whistle. Didn't things change in Boston when
the new Fleet Center was opened? IIRC the team wasn't very good then,
but it looked like the atmosphere was brutal there for a while. To
those who go regularly, is it better now? >> Stay informed about: 13,407 |

Actually this is a bit of a misconception. It may actually cost you
less and, at the moment, you can find tickets.
Ex: When UNH is top in their game it is almost impossible to get 4
tickets as I've tried to bring my family. Example, you can go watch
them play UMass for something like $20/ticket this January through
Ticketmaster or if you want to see them play Dartmouth with the service
charges I believe the ticket is about $30/ticket in Manchester.
Currently, and for the past 3-4 years, the Bruins have had family
packages of 4 tickets for $99 for certain games and 3-6 pack of tickets
to different games that work out to be about $30-40/ticket. I
believe all these packages can be purchased directly off the website
without ticketmaster charges.
Next is the parking - UNH parking is free on the street when you can
find it, Verizon center is $10 in the garage and free when you can find
it, parking in Boston can be had for $7 [or less] with a "similar walk
to the UNH parking lot"...Sure you can't take the elevator to the
entrance, but it is a lot easier getting in/out of the game. If you
need directions send me email.
