ISLANDERS ORANGE AND BLUE REVIEW January 15
By Adam Baruch & Jason Lockhart
THE ARRIVAL OF KYLE
Islanders 2006 first round draft pick, Kyle Okposo, did exactly what the
Islanders organization was hoping from the 19-year old - provide the
Bridgeport Sound Tigers with some added offense.
Following a grueling week of junior hockey on the biggest stage at the World
Juniors, Okposo seamlessly fit into the Bridgeport scheme and a new level
of hockey. In his first two professional hockey games, Okposo tallied a
game-winning goal and added four assists.
Playing three games in as many days, the Sound Tigers went 1-2-0-0 this past
weekend, dropping two games to the Binghamton Senators while defeating the
Springfield Falcons. The Sound Tigers record now stands at 18-21-1-0.
In the first game, Okposo set-up the Sound Tigers' only two goals in a 3-2
loss to Binghamton. The next night, Okposo exploded for a goal and two
assists to help lead Bridgeport to a 4-2 win over Springfield. Okposo used
a slap shot from the right circle to net his first career pro hockey goal.
His three points earned his First Star of the Game honors.
On Sunday, an exhausted Sound Tigers team could only muster one goal against
Binghamton, which won the game 3-1. "Overall, I thought Kyle's weekend was
good," said Bridgeport head coach Jack Capuano. "I was telling one of our
scouts that Kyle is one of those special players who always seems to be one
step ahead."
The Sound Tigers will spend two days practicing before traveling to Norfolk
for a battle with the Admirals on Wednesday, January 16 at 7:15 pm. From
Norfolk the Sound Tigers will make stops in Philadelphia (January 18 ? 7:05
pm), Albany (January 19 ? 7:00 pm) and Portland (January 21 ? 1:05 pm)
before returning home to face Philadelphia on January 23 at 7:30 pm.
