Sheffield Scimitars 3-0 Guildford Flames
Saturday 23rd December 2006
English Premier League
iceSheffield, Coleridge Road, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S9 5DA,
England

The Flames travelled to Sheffield in the final pre-Christmas game of
the season, and with their first opportunity to jump into first place
in the league standings, the Surrey based club fell 3-0 to the
Yorkshire side, who extended their league lead to 4 points over the
Flames. Sheffield opened their account at 8:55 thanks to Lloyd
Gibson. While Andrew Hemmings served a slashing minor for the Flames,
the Scimitars' Robert Dowd scored on the powerplay at 17:58 to extend
the home side lead to 2-0 as the clubs went to the first break. Just
beyond the midway point of period 2, the Scimitars struck on the
powerplay again when Steve Roberts beat Joe Watkins for a 3-0 lead.
In final session, the Flames delivered as much pressure as possible,
outshooting their opponents 14-5, but Pasi Raitanen was up to the
task, turning aside all rubber directed his way to earn the shutout,
helping Sheffield retain the top spot in the EPL table with the 3-0
win.
