I was dismayed to find that Marshy's at Centerpointe doesn't run a shuttle
anymore (while I was there before a game I was going to -- ended up
cancelling food and driving), and Googled around and couldn't find any kind
of compendium of restaurant/bar shuttles that run in Ottawa. (The Sens used
to have a Molson Star Bar page, but it's gone.)
Anybody want to contribute places they know that run shuttles (and how long
before the game they depart if you know this)? Just follow-up to this
message on the same thread.
I'll summarize once the traffic dies down.
Please try and make sure any info you have is currrent, apparently the
school bus drivers unions are clamping down on hours, at least that's the
excuse that Marshy's gave me for scrapping the bus.
Thanks.
For starters:
Broadway Bar & Grill, 3777 Strandherd Drive, 825-4567, 1 hour before game
Boston Pizza, Kanata Centrum, 592-7031, 45 min before game
Local Heroes, Everywhere, *, most 1 hour before game (varies by proximity) >> Stay informed about: Bar shuttles in Ottawa |

Only Laidlaw in the east end is unionized - none of the other school
bus companies in Ottawa have unions.
Stock bought Northstar and M&O Bus Lines, and both companies had a lot
of bar runs. Unfortunately, Stock's head office in Toronto doesn't
want buses running outside school hours as it costs them more in
insurance to do the non-school runs. Some ex-M&O Bus Line drivers who
went to Stock managed to keep their hockey shuttle runs, but not all.
Drivers don't get paid overtime until they work 44 hours in a week -
and since a normal school run pays 4 hours a day ($10-12 an hour - 20
hours a week - and PD days are unpaid days), they'd have to do a lot
of hockey shuttles to be paid overtime. M&O and Laidlaw paid fixed
rates for hockey shuttles - 3 hours paid time - unless the game went
into overtime. That's why the school buses shoot out of the parking
lot 15-20 mins after the game ends: they don't get paid enough to hang
around and wait for people.
Boston Pizza off Conroy has a shuttle bus sometimes, as does the one
at Merivale and Hunt Club. You'd have to call the restaurant to find
out the pick up time, though - sometimes they share a bus.
If you want to make a shuttle bus driver happy, tip them generously.

Different town, but here the shuttles to sports events are all private. The
drivers probably make minimum wage, like waiters. However, they have a big
tip jar, and many do very well for popular events. >> Stay informed about: Bar shuttles in Ottawa |
