Leafs after Bowman again?
August 7, 2007

Scotty Bowman says no, the Maple Leafs have not offered him their team
presidency.

On Sunday, Bowman gave the Toronto Globe and Mail a downright Nick
Sabanesque denial:

"I have not received any offers from the Toronto Maple Leafs for any
position. I can't make it any clearer than that."

But the G&M reported an unnamed source said the Leafs did offer the
job to the Red Wings' adviser/former coach last week.

And another source said Wings general manager Ken Holland asked Bowman
recently if talks had resumed but was told no.

Bowman told the Free Press last month that the Leafs did offer him a
consultant's job earlier this summer, but he turned it down.

He was in Toronto last week to attend an NHL rules conference, and the
Bowman camp says that might have started the rumor mill spinning
again.

"He went straight to the meeting with a colleague from Buffalo, and
drove right home afterward," a source close to Bowman told TSN. "He
had no contact with anyone from (the Leafs), but that's probably how
this started."
