So our big trade was a kid who can fight for a 1st rounder and a prospect
goalie.

Is there no reason we didn't look at Keith? Hey, not only can he fight, he
can, I dunno, PRODUCE? I'd like to see him on the Richards line clearing
some room out there.

A 23-year old kid playing that much time per game already should have done
more for a team with that much talent in addition to taking penalties.

J

Also got a third from the Ducks. Coleman is probably 4th on the
developmental depth list behind Ramo, Helenius, Boutin and Koscheskin(sp).
Career minor leaguer.

O'Brien skates 14 minutes per game on what may be the best defensive group
in the NHL, those who follow the Ducks really like the kid. The draft this
year is weak past the first 10 picks.

He is a rental and ATL paid heavily for him. He has 43 points this year,
definitely on the downside of his career. ATL is desperate, they are
mortgaging the future to try and sneak into the playoffs. And Keith has
never been a playoff performer.

He was doing what he was assigned to do. He was allegedly one of the best
in the AHL last year and put up points there. Not what was needed in ANA.

Certainly there are reasons. There are about $3.8M of them.

Let's also look at the thing our gentle coach demands most -- that
players report to camp in the best shape of their lives.

Keith is 35 years old.

Jay added a player projected to be a top-4 d-man for under $500K per
year and a 3rd round pick for a first round pick that should be a bad
one in a bad draft year, while shedding a goalie who didn't have a
prayer of ever doing a thing in the NHL for our team. From what I've
read about O'Brien, this wasn't a bad deal at all, *especially* in
light of our reduced salary budget next year.

I'm curious at to if this kid is going to be so important, why would a
cup-contending team like the ducks give his up for picks in a weak draft?
The playoffs is where you need the grinders. I dunno, if the kid was such a
gem, why did they give him up at all? I hope I'm wrong but I think that was
a little much to pay for him, at least for this year's run (if the Bolts are
even serious about a Cup run this year which my jury's sitll out on).

And you're right, I never looked at Tkachuk's stats but I guess he was a
little over hyped the past few years. Decent numbers but I for some reason
thought he was doing better than that. Stupid media.

Semper Fi,
J

They're deep on defense & apparently wanted a #1 to try to use for
another trade for more offense.

The Ducks need help up front, it is speculated they will package the #1 from
the Lightning (they didn't have one this year) with other assets to rent
Bill Guerin.

For whatever reason, Feaster isn't into rentals.
