I don't know that much about the guy - where do we think he stands in
the situation? Does he really care if the team stays, or if it goes to
his buddy's arena in KC? Just curious if anyone knows more or can
speculate better than I can.

SHOOTOUT - LET'S GO PENS

i have no clue but have been wondering the same. mario has been the
face of the ownership group but is not the majority owner.

supposedly burkle is a brilliant businessman. so on the one hand you
could see him taking the plum deal from KC b/c you're never going to
get a sweeter stadium deal. over the long haul though you'd have to
wonder about that market supporting hockey whereas in pittsburgh you
know you have a fantastic fan base. tough call on short term vs. long
term.

today's meeting with bettman (ugh), rendell and the pens' ownership
group is going to be the final act whichever way things go.

Here, here.

I'm pretty bullish on Bettman's involvement - if he does his job. He
can convince the team exactly your point...Pittsburgh is the BEST
place for the team, regardless of what building they play in. I wonder
if the team really knows KC isn't going to be a major hockey market.
I've seen a lot of KC people defending themselves on the Trib and P-G
sites, and rightfully so. But I still think that it's a weak market -
long term.

So, I believe that is why they haven't really communicated with KC
since their visit. They know that, if they go there, it's a sweet
deal. But, they realize too that it's a bad overall move; unless they
sell the team in a year.

I still like our chances of landing this deal. There is more pressure
on the public to support it and they HAVE to come thru.

Don't they?

That is where the local guys need to step up and do anything they can
financially and then sell it to their constituents that if we don't
have a new building in 2 years (with or without hockey) then we're
FUCKED anyway. So we had to chip in while the state, Barden and the
team are paying for about 80 percent of it.

The local gov't is making out like a bandit on this deal. But the
Governator is in control. It's his to lose.

west coast is awesome for sports viewing. a little sunday brunch with
the steelers and then the whole day left to do something during
football season. most of the hockey games are over by 6:30pm.

on saturday i'll get to watch the pens over pancakes and then take my
daughter to the zoo afterward!

"tommorow's" post-gazette is available online at 9pm-- hey that's only
about 20 minutes away. heheh.

And so it ends, with a meeting scheduled for next Wed.

That is obviously a good sign and I hope to see a deal next week.

Good night now!

Ditto. The team belongs in Pittsburgh.... or Jersey City. :)

Throwing my 2 cents in HERE, because it's nearly irrelevant and thus as
good a place as any.

I don't know where CenterIce carried the game from tonight, it was blacked
out in my area.
SOOOO, for those of you who missed it, on the FSNY broadcast Chico and Doc
took a bunch of opportunities to show crowd signs and discuss the issue
with the new arena. They made their feelings completely clear that they
couldn't see the team anywhere else, and Pittsburgh fans deserve to keep
their team.

Yeah, well.. I make that point because that seems to be the Nation wide
sentiment.. outside of KC. Just curious... I don't think I've ever seen
such a push by outside markets for any pro sports team to NOT relocate.

That is such a great point. I think even KC is pulling for them to
stay.

yeah, good observation stalker. every out of town broadcast on center
ice that i see the announcers have all said it would be a tragedy if
the pens move.

That would be HUGE tragedy IMO ! :(
I live in Poland, Europe, so far away from Pens home town, but even I can't
imagine them playing for any other city!
Some day, when it will be possible, I will take a trip to the United States
and - believe me or not - the first city I want to visit is The Steel City,
THE PENS HOME TOWN!!! And it will be THE PENS HOME TOWN for me, no metter if
Penguins will stay there [and wait for me ;)].
