Could the league legally prevent a team from giving shares as part of a
contract package with a player?
Say, for example, the Penguins gave Crosby a ten-percent share as part of a
ten-year deal. Say also the team is worth $250M. Is Crosby's cap hit 25M
this year or 2.5 per? What if the team is worth $300M in three years? What
if Crosby sells his share and stays on the team?

The CBA is very clear on what teams can and cannot use to pay players.
AFAIK, there is no provision for giving a player shares.

Then again, the NHL has already contradicted the CBA numerous times
already, so whatever.
