The score may not reflect it, but I thought the Bruins played a lot better
than the reports from their first loss to Carolina. Watching the Canes
tonight showed me how far the Bruins have to go!

Just got back from the game in Raleigh tonight.

I'd agree about the effort with the exception of the 3rd period. It didn't
look like they put in a full effort in the 3rd. Thomas let in a few soft
ones at the end, but with the exception of a few minutes in the middle of
the 3rd period, they didn't seem to be forechecking too much either.

Improved performance over the past few games and the first 2 periods, but
they still have a long way to go to be able to compete with the best in this
league.

Especially when it comes to getting the puck out past their own blueline.
Atrocious!

B's defensemen really struggled against Canes. Cole's tying goal was
spectacular
and he can make any Dman look bad, but Stuart & York did a bad job on
that play.
They also were the guilty parties on the 4th Canes goal when they were
both beaten
into the zone by forwards on a harmless dump in. Chara also flubbed the
puck on
the go ahead goal and Jurcina looked like he was trying to beat the
puck to death
on the first goal give away.

Biggest difference between the teams is puck control. The Canes can go
full tilt all
the time because they can maintain possession while doing it. The B's
are just not
a sharp passing team. Even when they make good decision, its 50-50 if
the puck is
going to be controlled at the other end of the pass. The Canes have no
big time Dman,
they play wide open, they even put 5 forwards on the Power Play. Yet
the B's had
only 17 shots on goal.

Admittedly, I only saw bits and pieces of the game. I just got back from
Natick MA. when the game started and I was bushed. I did notice that it
looked like York checked Stuart on the Cole goal but, yes, it was a beauty.
The idea of watching Wayne Primeau (a +1??) seemingly every other shift
could not keep me awake; just the opposite.
