| Capitals are 3-0. Jurcina has been 2nd in ice time each game. Gets
power play time
and penalty killing time. Guess he just needed a chance to play.

Hmmm...
Perhaps Jurcina is to Bog as Thornton is to smacdo? :)

They traded Boyes and Jurcina for Wideman and a 4-rounder? Unbelievable.
Unfortunately, its become a storyline in all sports these days where down
years get players traded or coaches fired (ie. Sullivan, not Lewis).
In regards to Thornton, do you think a favorable trans-sports comparison
would be A-Rod? Dominate during the regular season and disappear during the
playoffs? Forgive me if he scored some in last year's playoffs, I'm typing
without looking it up first...
Any ideas on which current Bruins gets traded first this year? My guess is
a defenseman...probably Bobby Allen.

A-Rod doesn't disappear in the playoffs. He actually has good playoff
numbers overall. Jeter has gagged just as often as A-Rod in the last three
playoffs...including this series just gone by when he hit .176/.176/.176.
The Yankee pitching are the ones who have done the disappearing act. And
Posada. And Matsui.
In 22 playoff games with San Jose, Joe has 3 goals and 17 assists for 20
points.
Really, Thornton had only 2 poor scoring playoff appearances with the
Bruins - his first, and his last. In between, he had 18 points in 22
playoff games. >> Stay informed about: Caps |

You have to look at his career.
9 goals and 29 points in 57 games at -12 is a no show in my books.

I disagree. You can look at it overall...but I don't think it paints the
picture fairly. In at least one of those series...he was injured, and the
team as a whole was pissing its collective pants.
Now, I won't try to pretend that Joe has been a stellar playoff performer.
No one is going to confuse him with the Mark Messiers of the world.
However, he has really had two piss poor playoff performances. Both with
Boston, his first, and his last. The other times he has been in the
playoffs, he has performed well to exceptionally. And again, I don't think
there is any coincidence between getting out from under the absolutely
unrealistic expectations of Boston...
But its just my opinion... >> Stay informed about: Caps |

Not to beat a dead horse, but....the article about Joe in last week's Sports
Illustrated portrayed him as an immature barfly who is finally coming of
age - they even mention that his current girlfriend was a bar manager in
Switzerland where Joe spent the lockout season. Think its possible the
Bruins felt his carefree lifestyle, lack of maturity and poor performances
in the playoffs were all related and led to the trade? He could have used a
veteran teammate like Ron Francis to show him how to be a NHLer...similar to
Lapointe taking Bergeron under his wing.

Not perhaps, rather for sure. I even thought about it while I was
writing it. >> Stay informed about: Caps |

Actually, Jeter hit .333 in 2005, .500 in 2006 playoffs
A-Rod hit .133 in 2005, .071 in 2006 playoffs.
And Thornton's only exceptional playoff years came for the Sault Ste.
Marie Greyhounds
and Davos. >> Stay informed about: Caps |

He has never had an exceptional playoffs. When the chips are down and
playoff performers need to perform, they do. Joe does not.
What year did he have an exceptional playoffs?
Ron
