From what I read in the coggage, Nilsson is not actually guaranteed a spot,
MacT said that the roster spot is "his to lose". But he probably will make
the roster since he is one of the players in the Ryan Smyth trade and it
would look bad if neither of Smyth's replacements made the roster.
