Speaking of the Wings, Curtis Joseph is due back on skates this week. That
should mean trade talks and rumors will pick up again. The most consistent
rumor has involved Washington shipping center Robert Lang to Detroit for
Cujo. The Capitals would then turn around and ship Olaf Kolzig to Colorado
for Alex Tanguay. This rumor makes no sense from a hockey standpoint in
Motown. Yes, they could use a talented center like Lang, but do you do so
knowing your biggest rival in the West is going to get an experienced
goaltender that could beat you in the playoffs? I don't think so. And no
offense to Cujo, who I have a lot of respect for, but he's not an upgrade
over Olaf Kolzig. It's more of a lateral move, which doesn't make sense. The
only benefit Washington would get out of that deal is dumping Lang's salary
for Tanguay's, but then they pick up Cujo's 8M contract.
