What a totally dishgushting biashed dishplay. Komi getsh nailed against the
boardsh with a good hard check, and then Plekanec getsh 2 minutesh for
EXACTLY the shame play.

And I think the penalty shot call was OK, but Alfredsshon redefined diving
with that one. Watch the replay, ash he throwsh both armsh up in the air
for a good shecond or sho before falling to the ice. Here's hoping for a
little unbiashed reffing in the third.....

TGIH (the H is of course Huet), Carey Price ain't getting the shtarting job
quote yet boysh....

Sorry Steve, I think the drinks are affecting your judgment as well as
your typing. (But way to take one^^^ several for the team.) Plekanec
deserved that minor, and I don't think Alfredsson took a dive.

But you're right about Huet. There's no goaltending controversy in
Montreal, folks -- just an embarrassment of riches.

Jim

I'll side with Steve. Plekanec hit him fair and square. Alfredsson
took a dive. Ryder's hook happened 14 other times in the game without
a call. Etc. I don't think the game was particularly badly
officiated, mind you, nor do I think it affected the outcome of the
game. It was basically just a par-for-the-course display of
inconsistent application of a murky set of rules. That's the new
NHL. Huzzah.

Waiting for someone to point this out. The "new" rules have seemed to
have evolved again. Now, they call less, but can still make the
chintziest of calls whenever they want. 10 "hooks" that don't slow down a
player go uncalled, then "poof", they pull one out!

Really, bake a cake for the ref before a game and deliver it to his room.
There's about 40 plays a game a ref COULD call, and he pulls out anywhere
from 4 to 15 of them depending on his mode, the alignment of the sun and
moon, and the price of the tea in China I guess. This is another reason
for Carbonneau to keep the whining in check (which he has been doing
better lately IMO). Don't piss off a ref, because he can call a penalty
at any moment of his choosing under the arguemnt that it is a "new NHL"
call.

However, what gauls me the most is when commentators say "they'll call
that every time" after a minor hook like Ryder's. It's like they are
propoganda shills for the league because NO, they DON'T call that every
time anymore...just whenever they feel like it.

A defect of the NHL for sure. You can't call everything yet some call
the small stuff at critical times.

The Mcabe play reminds me of Souray - Watching the play, I could see Souray making a similar bone-headed play like that. Komi is a killer and how many of us really thought he was going to score on that play. I sure didn't think he was going to. And did you see how far behind the laffs..

An interesting thought... - We're all expecting Price to rip it up in camp and turn Huet into excess baggage. But what if he doesn't? What if he and Halak are good, but not outstanding...and *Huet* is the best goalie? It gets a lot tougher for Gainey to pull the trigger on a..

What's happened to Souray? - Obviously he didn't want to return to Montreal, but if he ends up signing for 5 mill or less and doesn't go to the west coast isn't that just a little bit embarrasing for him? I think he overestimated his value some.
