Any guesses on the suspension? I'm thinking 20 games, maybe 25. He'll be
made an example of.

it was a bad hit that can't be tolerated and he should be suspended
but those fans and players who are so outraged are all hyprocrits.

Umm, yeah. Chris Simon got 25 games for hitting Hollweg in the head
with a stick last season...and it was his SIXTH careeer suspension.
Downie, as a first-time offender on a non-stick foul? 10 games max,
and that probably includes presason.

McGrattan should sit for a few games because of his published comments
as well.

20 games seems reasonable but I'm afraid it may be even longer. I see
similarities to the Bertuzzi incident in that this hit seems to have hit a
nerve that crosses all lines - fans, players, management and League
executives. I'm hoping it is only a twenty game suspension but it may go
well beyond that.

Clean vs. dirty is subjective. Neil clearly hit Drury well after Drury
had released the puck, and caught him in a vulnerable position. Dirty
hit IMO. Guys like Neil are always calling hits like that "dirty" when
it happens to the or their teammates, and "clean" when they do it.

I'm going with 12 games. Which is sad. That's what Matt Johnson got for
ending Beaukeboom's career. Does anyone know what Chris Neil got for his
hit on Drury?

And IMO, Legal vs Illegal is subjective on the ice. The slow motion camera
can help, but this is only after the fact. Downie's hit was only marginally
Illegal, because his feet left the ice a fraction of a second prior to
impact.

And IMO, Intent to injure is even more subjective. Aren't all checks intent
to injure. As a player, everytime you check some one - you'd love to smoke
them. And, how do you judge this? Should it be based on the injury?
McAmmond may be playing again soon. Were as Upshall got hurt from a check,
is sitting for 6 weeks. Should that guy that hit Upshall be brought in
front of Campbell?

This whole thing piss's me off. It should be made illegal or not. There
should be clear non-basis rules. Lindros, Primeau, Johnson, Kapanen,
Umberger all got smoked by "dirty" hits and nothing. Downie - just because
of his rep gets 20 games thats bullshit.
