A winning idea would be to sign your good players to long term contracts not
the "filler" players the Oil are so in love with. Pisani is useless this
year. Why? They ruined him. Here you had a guy who was a career minor
leaguer, they gave him a chance, he was thrilled and played like there was
no tomorrow. Why? Because for him there was no tomorrow. One or two bad
games and its seeya. A guy like this is just happy to be in the pros, saving
his change and hoping the ride lasts awhile. So just fresh of the Cleary
debacle what do the Oil do? Sign him to a three year contract which changes
the whole motivational aspect. Suddenly he's an established NHLPA pro, feels
secure and his game goes in the tank. Way too much Deja Vu here.
