Since it worked so well with Shanahan a few days ago, Renney's going
with an injured Jagr, Avery and Shanny tonight.

http://rangers.lohudblogs.com/2008/01/16/full-unit-against-sabres/

Sean Avery, Brendan Shanahan, and Jaromir Jagr will all be in the
lineup tonight against the Sabres despite their assortment of
injuries.

"Whether or not it's sore, I just put it out of my head," Avery said
of his wrist.

Losers of six of their last seven, the Rangers obviously need Avery
back, and can expect to benefit from his rare brand of spunk. But can
he be play his on-the-edge game while remaining healthy? The answer so
far, with three significant injuries already this season, has been no.
Avery said yesterday the one concession he would make to his wrist is
he would try to avoid fighting. But in the same sentence, he also
acknowledged he can't always contain himself.

"When you'e out there playing and emotions are running, you probably
don't think as rationally as you would like," he said. "You can't
think that way. I just have to go out and play. I'm not going to
change anything. I'm not effective if I do that."

In other

# Expect Shanahan and Avery to rejoin Chris Drury on a line. Marcel
Hossa, Greg Moore and Jason Strudwick will be the scratches.

# Henrk Lundqvist is in net.

# Brandon Dubinsky, after first trying to play it cool, about being
named to the YoungStars Game:

"Of course I'm excited. Growing up I watched all the All-Star Games.
And it'll be nice to have Marc (Staal) going to have someone to kick
it with."

Kolzig Tonight - WOW, I don't think I've seen a worst shoot out performance by a goalie. Did he not get beat on the same move three straight times? And on top of that didn't get a piece of any shot. Timmy

Avery in tonight - Prucha and Mara are possibly healthy scratches. Somehow Mara is worse than Jason Strudwick. Somehow Mara is worse than Marek Malik. Don't ask me. http://rangers.lohudblogs.com/2007/12/23/return-of-avery-provides-a-glimmer-of-hope-for-the-rangers/

Tonight's lines - Orr-Betts-Hollweg Jagr-Gomez-Hossa Shanahan-Drury-Moore Dawes-Dubinsky-Prucha I guess it's good to have a defensive presence on Jagr's line. The first line remains unchanged, and if all goes well will pull over 25 minutes tonight.

Defense was better tonight - Another one of those efforts in which you can't really tell if Lundqvist played well, or just benefited from the much better defensive play in front of him. Taking that many penalties was ridiculous, though.

Who had the worst game tonight - Your nominees are: 1. Jaromir Jagr -- Rangers hockey (TM) sailing along smoothly, until an apparently coked-up Jagr feels it's time for a triple shift. Jagr spends a 15 second span in his own defensive zone in a single spot. That's right, he doesn't..
