managment and the coaching staff have made the right choice. smith is
the perfect captain for this team even though he's new. it could be
argued that it's like making hatcher captain a couple of years ago,
but they're different players and the circumstances are as well. smith
has the credentials, the ability, and durability. gagne and richards
are the right choices for assistants as well. gagne deserves it for
his tenure, quality of play (especially during last year's fiasco) and
durability. richards because he's being groomed to be the future
captain. he's come to play this season and make sure that last year
becomes a distant memory.
i'm mixed on gauthier. obviously they feel they can get better
perfromrance for the money, and this seems to be more of a cap
situation dictacting this decision more than anything else. it seems
unlikely that he'll get claimed either now or later in the season if
they try to bring him back through, but you never know how desperate a
team might be. there are plenty of young dmen to pick from and i
suspect we'll see stevens rotate them in and out of the flyers lineup
unless one really stands out.
not being a dick here, but irregardless is not a word. here are a
couple of explanations from dictionary.com:
Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be
correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in
nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in
the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for
being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the
logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less
suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it
is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and
unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will
probably continue to be so.
or this:
an erroneous word that, etymologically, means the exact opposite of
what it is used to express, attested in non-standard writing from
1912, probably a blend of irrespective and regardless. Perhaps
inspired by the double negative used as an emphatic.
just trying to help. drop the puck already!
