The native of Montreal, Quebec has signed a three-year contract with the
Canadiens, reportedly worth $4.5 million. The deal includes a partial
no-trade clause.

This is a damn good signing. Better, younger, cheaper than Smolinski, and
we finally have a bruiser who knows how to play the game too.

Once we get Gorges, Halak and O-'byrne signed, I say send Dandenault packing
and keep the cap room for Mats, or a big mid-season trade.

Steve

P.S. Rangers just signed Markus Naslund, so they can't be in the Sundin
sweeps anymore. So it's T.O., Vancouver or Montreal.

I sort of thought Laracque might command a bit of a premium even above
this. That's not so bad. But as others have said, it does leave us a
little heavy on 4th liners. Of course, until we sign another
defenseman, we're still light on defense by one body, so perhaps the
thinking is swinging back towards using Dandy there again?

We still have a bit over $7M to spend, even without ditching Dandy, so
there's still room.

Gerry

Excellent, excellent move. This makes each one of our small players 3
inches taller and 30 pounds heavier. A big need fulfilled, and another
francophone for those who see it as necessary. Way to go BG!

Any one know what is the "Limited No Trade Claus"? This mean that he
can only be traded to a select few teams?

I like the $1.5 per year cap friendly salary!

Show me some hypothetical lines boys!!

As for hypothetical lines... where does Dandy fit? Unless he is spun
off in a trade, I still see little sense in not having bought him out
when they had the chance.

Dandy's as good as gone.

Hope someone finds his versatility, speed and money (1.7) just
attractive enough.

I subscribe to the "If it aint broke don't fix it school". Do not break
up Plekanec's line. Plus Kovalev and Koivu do not play together well.

Tanguay-Koivi-Higgins
AK-Pleks-AK
Laraque-Chipchura-Lats < -- I like this line
Begin-Lapierre-Kostop

I dunno. As a 7th d-man? Last season, they seemed to give up entirely on
him being a d-man, but if we can't trade him, he can still be used there
I suppose.

Dude, little tits is absolutely going to be on the top 2 lines. Can't see
him not even in the starting lineup.

My take:

Tanguay-Koivu-Little Tits
Big Tits-Pleks-Kovy
Higgins-Chippy-Latendresse
Laraque-Lapierre-Kotsopulos

What do you call it the slow line? I would be very worried with this
line.

> Begin-Lapierre-Kostop

Does the fact we added 3 locals mean the media will give us some leeway
in
dropping any? Who are the obvious ones? Breezer? Dandenault? Can we
get a good player with a package of Dandy, Lats and someone else? Tampa
is looking for defense if they get rid of Boyle but maybe they could part
with St Louis for the right deal?

I think we are still short a big centre and a solid defenseman from going
all the way.

It is too early to waste a roster spot on a pressbox commando. They
have some depth with young defencemen. Give someone a chance to win
the position during training camp. Rookie against rookie as Obryne and
whoever fight it out for the 6th and 7th defence spots. Once a clear
winner is found demote the loser for some playing time. Worry about
carrying a 7th Dandy type vet later in the season, around the trade
deadline. Never saw the sense in relying on a player who would be
sitting in the pressbox for most of the last quarter of thew season vs
a game ready callup from Hamilton.

If Montreal does eventually sign Sundin, hopefully Dandy is the
compensation.
