or anyone else for that matter because Ek says the Habs and Wild are in
talks, must be the Wild and some other team.

<START EKLUND BULLSHIT>
There are several rumours that the Minnesota Wild are in heavy talks and
perhaps trying to pull off a major deal. I am hearing the Habs may be
involved.
</END EKLUND BULLSHIT>

I'm going to do like Ek and pull a rumor out of my ass. I predict the
Wild and, uhm, uhm, the Rangers are talking a big deal. There. We'll see
who has more accuracy.

So if Mikko Koivu would be available, who would you give up? The usual
suspects? HIggins, Kostytsins, Latendresse...?

The problelm is, I do not think they will give Mikko for almost anything
the Habs got, they would offer Gaborik and want one line of prospects in
exchange. I really believe that Riseborough is talking about getting rid
of Gaborik with any team and of course he calls his old buddy Gainey, if
for not another reason, then to extend his seasons greetings.

Riseborough trying to trade Gaborik is no news, but him selling
Grabowski would be some front page news. :-).

Maybe I'm an oddball, but the only time I hear what Eklund has to say
is when I read it on this newsgroup.

So I suggest that everyone who hates Eklund should stop promoting him
here. He's only as "influential" as we all let him be.

Actually Pecker Head is right on this one. I mean what sane GM would not
have spoke to Riseborough about Gaborik?

But since we are in the predicting mood...I predict that if the Habs do
a deal with the Wild (Gaborik or no Gaborik) one the Koivus will be
involved. More than likely Saku going there if it involves Gaborik or
Miko comimg this way (which is a better fit for the Habs than Gaborik)
if he is the primary asset. Miko is a super-charged, 'roided' version of
his older brother.

One can only hope. I want Saku to be a Lifer!

If Mikko was available I would give up any one of Higgins, S
Kostitsyn, Lats + prospect/pick. My preference would be for Higgins
since I'd hate to break up the Kostisyns and Lats isn't going to be
much of a trade for them so we can take him off the table. I'm not
trading A Kostitsyn.

Actually, Mikko would be a better grab for the Habs but no way the
Wild are trading him. Gaborik is a headache for them.

While we're talking what if's - I'd much rather they chase a blue chip
young D like Jay Bowmeester to be honest. Tighten up that D and add a
little fire power on the back end and watch this team take off. You
know what Scotty Bowman says "Defence wins Championships".

I agree 100 percent. what other trade freeze hit generators will he
come up with?
I wonder what Eklund sells during his "day job", or if he has one for
that matter.

If I was a bettin' man this is where Gainey is looking. He knows damn
well the hole that needs filling...whether he can land Jay Bow is
another story...so you know he is probably working on multiple fronts.

I know that if Riseborough asks Lemaire, then Mikko will stay put in
Minnesota as long as Lemaire stays.

It is not Scotty Bowman's original idea, it has been known for years
before him. Scotty got the idea possibly from Toe Blake. I think that
Vince Lombardi was advocating it on the side of football.

But I must point out, that "defence" in this context does not mean
"defencemen" win the championship, but "defensive play" wins
championships and the defencive play, or shorty defence, starts when
your teal has lost the puck, and the forwards are here big factors. One
reason Tikhonov valued Bob Gainey so high, that he called him "the best
hockey player in the world" was his value as a defensive forward. In the
defensive system all the NHL teams are using in their own defensive zone
the center is as important as the defencemen.

PS: Off topic: CHL with the mouth of Vhaeslav Fetishov and Igor Larionov
have announced that because of the world (and Russian) economic
situation will not expand as planned and that the salaries of players
will be cut. This will not affect the top players (because some of them
might jump to the NHL), but the "midle of the pack and lower salary
class players.
