That's an old, old trophy. We're talking 1910's old... The "Memorial" part
refers to the memory of WWI soldiers. BTW, it's bloody heavy, too.
When Dan Boyle brought the Stanley Cup to my neck of the woods, Paul Oak
(one of the Cup's handlers) told stories of players jumping off diving
boards with it, dropping it off second floor balconies to waiting players,
and the helicopter ride for Neids to look like he climbed Mount Olympus with
it, lol. The bottom of the Stanley Cup has fallen off a few times... I
think the much-lesser protected Memorial Cup can be cut a mulligan.
