My Idea for Hockey

The NHL and hockey generally need to be shaken up, so I'm proposing the
following:

Let's investigate North American hockey ( ie, NHL, AHL, ECHL, etc )
operating on a system very similar to English soccer divisions ( ie Premier,
1st, 2nd, etc ). 20 - 4 teams in the top tier, 56 game schedule, 3 weeks off
at Christmas ( La Lige does this ), interdivisional games (eg Detroit Red
Wings at Hershey ), or ?

This concept has been mentioned before for other leagues, and it will
never work in America. No owner is willing to risk having his team
relegated after a poor season.
