....or should I say impressive first period and a half to two of a win.
Nevertheless, I was quite pleasantly surprised by two things last
night:

(A) They were passing extremely well - even those players who names
aren't Joe Thornton were passing well. Amazing.

(B) The Sharks seemed less inclined to just dump the puck in and more
inclined to try and make some plays to get it over the blue line,
which led to some great set-ups and heavy domination of the attacking
zone through the first two periods.

They got far too sloppy and loose in the third period though, and I
wouldn't be surprised if Nabby is still thinking about that goal...

So was I. I came away feeling that it was the most, or among the most
dominating games they've played this season. There were lengthy
periods where they severely outclassed Vancouver. I saw them "go
limp" a bit in the third period, but that was also partly due to the
Canucks coming out very strong and attacking in desperation mode due
to the thrashing they were getting for much of the first two periods.
The good thing is the Sharks bent but didn't break. Nabby's big stop
of Daniel Sedin turned the tide, and the guys stiffened sufficiently
to play even the rest of the game. I thought they played 50 minutes
extremely well, a few minutes way too soft, and the rest of it even.
More games like that (especially at home) and they could distance
themselves from the rest of the Pacific Division. I didn't even
really mind the lack of shots in the first half of the first period,
because they were moving so well and were so physical. And, it is
clear that when the other players skate in the offensive zone, it
makes Joe a load to handle, and good things happen.

I'm at the Toronto game tomorrow. Nabby vs Kipper. I hope there's
some carry-over from their performance last night.

I was at the Leafs-Kings game last night in LA. Leafs have allowed 10
goals in 2 games in California. The upside for the Sharks is that
they seem to lack the embarrassment factor at that, so I don't think
it likely that's they'll come raging out like Buffalo did. However,
Paul Maurice has to hear the footsteps creeping up on him, and may
really push them to make a statement.

However, I tend to doubt it. Leafs are just bad this year, so
hopefully Sharks should have a somewhat easy time with them.

Wait a minute? Nabby vs. Kipper? Who do the Sharks have tomorrow?
Is it Calgary or Toronto? Did you mean Nabby vs Toskala?

Right! Dang, there are TOO MANY ex-Shark goalies out there...

Nabby vs Toskala.

Should be fun.

Toskala came on in relief last night after the Queens chased
Raycroft. 2nd game in 2 nights for him, and he's coming off IR for a
groin injury. I'd bet he'll still play, but if the Leafs had ANYBODY
else, he should sit. Of course, there's that whole playing-against-
your-former-team thing, but still. Leafs are going no where. No need
to tear up one of your three decent players.

Indeed one of their better games. Beautiful pass by Marleau on the PP
to Thornton.
