on ticket prices in Buffalo???

From the Sunday Herald's NHL Notes:

Jacobs offers 2 cents

Player salaries aren't the only thing on the rise, at least if Bruins
owner Jeremy Jacobs has his way.

The newly elected chairman of the NHL board of governors created a stir
this week when he offered some advice to Buffalo owner Tom Golisano.
Jacobs, whose Delaware North Companies, Inc. is based in Buffalo, counseled
the Sabres to raise ticket prices.

"We're still driven very much by our ticket revenue," Jacobs told the
Buffalo News. "The attendance in Buffalo is strong. Buffalo has had a very
low ticket price for a number of years. As long as the interest is strong
as it is, it may be painful, but people may have to pay more for tickets."

After losing Drury and Briere, a hike won't exactly go over well in
Buffalo. At least the Sabres have the advantage of coming off a season in
which they posted the best record in the NHL at 53-22-7.

Jacobs would like to see the Bruins and Sabres costs a little closer, and
it
won't be his club lowering prices to make it so.

Not content running his own franchise into the ground, Jacobs offers
advice on how to run the Sabres into the ground too. Nice. If I were
Golisano, I would follow just about any advice before Jacobs.

A ticket increase in Buffalo would be *suicide* right now...the city is
already really hot under the collar about Drury and Briere (among
others) leaving.

Goes to show what Jacobs knows about running an NHL franchise.

Jacobs should also understand that out of the "Original 30" Buffalo
has the lowest median income figure. Now it's true Detroit runs a
close second, but Detroit has almost 5 times that population as
Buffalo has. What I fail to understand is that if Buffalo charges more
for tickets, then league revenue goes up, and when that happens the
salary cap goes up. Is Jacobs doing this so that the Bruins can have
more room under the salary cap to get better players? Somehow I doubt
it...

JJ just doesn't get it. Why are there still fans at Celtics games when they
are having record breaking losing streaks? Because they offer cheap
tickets.
