They were having a discussion on Sportsnet whether Eric should go to the
H.O.F. Their argument was, since he had better numbers than Neely and
won the Hart Trophy that he should go. The fan vote in was 67% yes, and
33% no. They were throwing out some pretty impressive numbers, like one
of the fastest players to reach 500 pts. etc. etc. You have to admit, if
he was healthy, he would have been one of the best players ever. Bad
management and injuries were his downfall. I don't think that any Flyer
Fan can say that when they decided he was going to the Flyers and not the
Rangers, they were disappointed. In hindsight, Forsberg, Ricci, etc.,
would have been a better deal, but when I saw this giant hitting
everything that moved, fighting, and scoring goals, I thought they were
going to win the Stanley Cup. Bad goaltending was the reason for the
Flyers not making it, they had everything else. Should Lindros go to the
HOF....I gotta say no...

The only knock against him, in my book, is that he was a man-child. I
don't even hold the injuries against him. More often than not, the
people who ran into him got injured. When you play that physical,
you're going to get injured.

Christ, Jones scored 20 goals playing with him. lol

Has Eric announced his retirement?

I just found out that Eric is my boss's, sister in-law's, cousin - I feel
related. I realize the this is no big surprise, but... She said that he's
going to retire - which unless I forgot - I don't think he's officially
announced yet.

No,not unless there's a "Most Dysfunctional Family in the Most
Dysfunctional Organization" category. Eric is a footnote in the "what
could have been" paragraph, not the "what was".

If Lindros was a baseball player and not a hockey player, he probably would
make the hall of fame on statistics alone. I don't think he will make the
hockey hall of fame due to (maybe unrealistic) expectations not met during
his short career. Eric was truly one of the most dominant players in the
League for about a 4-5 year stretch but I feel like you should have a
decade-long run of dominance to make it to the HOF. It wouldn't bother me
if he does make it, I'm sure there are worse players already in there.

On the outside cusp. The Legion of Doom was great stuff.....the
Lindros v. Stevens in its heyday....it doesn't get any better but I
have to go with the feeling here in that to be in the Hall you should
have a great career, not 5-6 years. And while guys like Ted Williams
show that you don't need a championship ring to earn your stripes as
one of the best in your sport, having a Cup or two under your belt
certainly boosts your case.

If he does, he might be the first player in history to make the NHL HOF, but
not his own team's HOF.
