Steven's is dividing the team up into mini-teams to play a round-robin -
look it up on Flyers website.

The interesting piece is that, these teams are probably the lines to start
off the season. My money's on Team Barber (grit, goaltending and defense)

Team Snider

Simon Gagne Danny Briere Mike Knuble
Kyle Greentree Frederik Cabana Jesse Boulerice
Garrett Klotz Pete Zingoni Darroll Powe

Randy Jones Lasse Kukkonen
Oskars Bartulis Nate Guenin
Chad Anderson

Brian Boucher

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Team Allen

Scott Hartnell Mike Richards Sami Kapanen
Riley Cote Pat LeBeau Claude Giroux
Josh Beaulieu Mario Kempe Adam Henrich

Braydon Coburn Derian Hatcher
Lars Jonsson Kevin Marshall
Adam Bourque-LeBlanc

Antero Niittymaki
Scott Munroe

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Team Barber

Ben Eager R.J. Umberger Stefan Ruzicka
Boyd Kane Ryan Potulny Steve Downie
Matt Stefanishion Pat Maroon David Laliberte

Kimmo Timonen Jason Smith
Jussi Timonen Martin Grenier
Ryan Wilson

Martin Biron
Martin Houle

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Team Parent

Scottie Upshall Jeff Carter Joffrey Lupul
Denis Tolpeko Jon Matsumoto Darren Reid
Triston Grant Jared Ross Gino Pisellini

Denis Gauthier Alexander Picard
Ryan Parent Tyson Dowzak
Maxime Ouimet-Desjardins

Rejean Beauchemin
Jeremy Duchesne

Dunno about anyone else, but this looks like a pretty damn solid team,
all the way down the line. I would have thought that moving Hartnell
off the second line would make it a little too lightweight, but those
details can and will get sorted out over the course of the season.

The first line is a gimme to be gold. If Carter & Richards can take
the next step and become 60+ point players, we have a very deep and
balanced team, both on offense and defense. It is very early but they
could be as much of cup contenders in the East as anyone else, IMO.
And if they sign Forsberg to lead a late-season charge.... oooooh
mama.

What, no team Clarke? And what about team Lindros?

Also, I saw this on the Flyers' site. But where did you hear that these are
the likely combinations?

Pelle, the four teams are going after the "Clarke Cup"... I guess the
runner up gets Lindros's old used cup.

Nothing is confirmed, and things will change... It is safe to say, that
these lines are Stevens wants to see. I just took the reasonable assumption
that these preseason lines we'll see in the upcoming season and possibly
openning night. Obviously, Stevens will switch up the lines during the
season. And, if something doesn't click in preseason, he'll change it up
before the openning night.

I don't think any of this is ground breaking... Line 1 was set when Briere
signed. The biggest question that was answered was what lines Upshall and
Hartnell ended up on. I'm surprised that it wasn't Hartnell with Carter,
and Upshall with Richards. Stevens must have like the Upshall/Carter combo
last year. Stevens is splitting up the beefer Lupul and Hartnell and the
quicker Upshall and Kapanen. Line 4 is always up for grabs... But, it
appears that its Ruzicka instead of Poultny, Downie, Giroux? And, Gauthier,
Picard and Parent might fight for a spot. I wouldn't slack off if I were
Jones, because he's the first to go.

Simon Gagne Danny Briere Mike Knuble
Scottie Upshall Jeff Carter Joffrey Lupul
Scott Hartnell Mike Richards Sami Kapanen
Ben Eager R.J. Umberger Stefan Ruzicka

Randy Jones Lasse Kukkonen
Braydon Coburn Derian Hatcher
Kimmo Timonen Jason Smith

I can't believe Jones is still considered top 6 at this point. Any
one of Gauthier, Picard, or Parent will be a solid upgrade, but mostly
Picard until Parent matures.
