I looked at Calgary's roster and stats. It's hard to see what they'd
be willing to give up to the Sharks that would be worth trading
Marleau unless they make a booboo. The players on their roster of
potential interest might be: Tanguay, Huselius, Phaneuf, Langkow.

Sutter has wanted him for a long time, but he isn't going to get him.
He's not trading Phaneuf, and the Sharks really can't use anyone else
that he would be willing to trade. Besides, doesn't Marleau have a no
trade clause?

I believe the no-trade is attached to the extension that Marleau signed,
but not to his original contract. Thus, the Sharks may trade him prior to
the end of this season without his consent. After the season ends, the no-
trade goes into effect.

That sounds right -- thanks for the update. I still don't think
Calgary will be the trading partner, if there is one. The two teams
that have constantly been rumored to trade for Marleau are Montreal
and Calgary, and the rumors seem to come from Canada, so its more like
wishful thinking. Wilson won't trade Marleau for Langkow. If he can
get Phaneuf for Marleau, then Wilson should just be promoted to
General Czar, never to be replaced!

I might do that too. Marleau/Bernier/Ehrhoff not entirely unlike the
Sturm/Stuart/Primeau package in terms of value.

I don't play the cap game as well as some, but you're proposing Calgary take
on close to $6MM in salaries and only giving back less than a $1MM. They're
already at close to $45MM, if I read it right...

This is all just meaningless speculation. But yeah, you're right, even
though Phaneuf is going to get a massive raise soon.
