I got this link from Spector. I wonder who these "key players and
front office officials" are, and how their dissatisfaction will
manifest itself? Unless one of the "key players" have a first name of
Joe, then this really is the pot calling the kettle black. And I
don't think JT is bad-mouthing Marleau, so I discount this as
factually lacking. I think Marleau will emerge from his slump,
eventually, and go on one of his patented hot streaks.

On another topic, the schedule makers have screwed over the Sharks
again. After their 6pm bout with Phx tonight, they'll catch a plane
home, and try to land in San Jose before the curfew, where the Sabres
are already waiting for them fresh off their 8-2 licking at the hands
of the Kings last night, and in a foul mood too, no doubt. I think
the Sharks better win tonight, as the game tomorrow night has all the
makings of an L.

Well, Patty has the goatee now, I guess that means he intends to
toughen up.

There aren't a lot of Sharks that have the right to complain about
anything.

Scheduling like that is idiotic. As RW pointed out, it's not even good
for business: Home teams shouldn't scheduled into looking bad in front
of their fans, that just doesn't make sense.

LOL! I think they're actually going to do well tomorrow against
Buffalo. They have a lousy home record, they're very aware of it,
they're going to want to turn that around, and they won't have time to
settle in and feel comfortable at home before they have to play! Its
almost like a back-to-back on the road, kinda.

As for Marleau, there are several guys on the team that need to step
it up, but they don't wear the "C". Leadership counts - visible
passion counts (even a pulse would be nice to detect). I don't know
if any of you caught the look on Patty's face (on YouTube) after Joe's
great pass. Sitting on the bench afterwards, the guy just simply
looked confused. Sorry to say, I just do not see him as "captain"
material.

Sure wish tonight's game was televised....

I hope you're right. The recipe for success against Buffalo is really
quite simple. See the Anaheim and LA games. They both beat the snot
out of the Sabres in the first period, especially the Kings. Will the
Sharks have the energy to play that way? Will Nabby miss his first
game?

Marleau has been attacked mercilessly as not being captain material
since the Detroit series. All he has to do to shut everyone up is go
on a hot streak. Whether you or I see him as captain material is
really not very important. Its what the players think that counts. He
may be very good in the room, and very passionate, who knows?

I think that who is captain on the Sharks is really not very important
with Joe wearing the A, and happy. As long as Joe is OK with the
situation, it doesn't matter. He freely does interviews, and has
spoken for the players in general, while Marleau is slumping. Unless
Marleau is an actual problem in the room, I don't see a need for any
change in sweater letters.

>Sure wish tonight's game was televised....

Well, it is on center ice...

Very true. But the grumblings about Marleau are now reputed to be
from within the org. And what *they* think does matter...

That article is one of the best, most straight-forward, non-"pc"
comment about the Sharks and playing in san Jose that I've ever read.
To me, it's 100% right on the money.

Boring some with repitition, perhaps, but every time I see that promo
snipit of Marleau at the San Jose Grand Prix, I think, "this guy's too
happy, life's too good, wife's too cute, weather's too nice, and win
or lose, this guy's life is just too enjoyable."

He's not playing well personally, and he's failed, not for a month or
two, but, for several years to be an inspirational captain, who can
lift a team off the floor or demand more when it counts. He's
skilled, but streaky, and he's far too quiet to stir the pot, and this
is a team that needs huge pot stirring. I am not for giving him away,
but if the Sharks could package a good deal that would bring talent
and more leadership, then, I'm all for it.

We've watched this team for years, now, as the article says, not for a
few games, where some neophyte fans are just supposed to be happy
there's a team and that they have cute merchandize for the kiddies for
Christmas. It's time for everybody to be demanding a true contender.
Even absent fans hollering, I am surprised that professionals in the
front office are so placid. No changes; no Cup.

The game they played in Dallas was excellent, the best in a long time,
but I've watched these guys too many years to think that some kind of
revelation has taken place and that they'll elevate their game
consistently.

As for the scheduling, the complaining is for losers. They should
have the sills, professionalism and desire to be able to turn it up a
notch and feed off the home crowd. If they skate around in a daze and
stink it up, they should look in the mirror, not at the scheduler.

The Sharks have had a disproportionate number of road games, and
they've done well. In any other city, this would position them to
open a big lead by winning at home, as expected. with our bunch,
we're lucky if they're over .500. Unacceptable.

Well, enough said. Maybe, the management is as lulled by the weather,
lifestyle and happy crowds, as the players. Unless somebody gets a
Lombardi (and, I don't mean Deano)-like attitude, we don't seem able
to elevate the play to championship levels spontaneously.

Those trade rumors must have been true, but apparently DW wasn't able
to swing a deal. These leaks must be intended to put the fear of trade
in Marleau, but somehow I don't think he'll be any less stoic about
these grumblings than he is on camera. Or they may be intended to
prepare the fans for the inevitable, his demotion or a trade.

Well, you've pegged the reason that the front office has been so placid:
nobody is hollering, at least not enough to hurt where it counts, the
financial bottom line. The Sharks still sell out most of their home
games, their merchandise sells well here, and I can only guess that
their TV ratings are enough for them not to complain. Change won't
happen unless enough fans stop giving the Sharks money. (That's not
always enough (cf. Chicago), but for most teams, if the money doesn't
come in, management will make changes.)

This isn't just a problem here: in New York, corporate tickets are such
a huge seller that the Rangers don't have to care about putting a
winning team on the ice. They sell out their games, even though many
seats are often left empty.

They've already won as many games in Dallas/Phoenix combined this season as
at home. A win tonight would give them 5 (with only 4 wins at home).
Ridiculous.

That says it all as far as I'm concerned.

Raj Mathai called it when he talked about complacency. I again assert
there are only two offensive guys who, night in and night out, are
always pushing themselves. Joe and Mike... the two guys wearing the
"A"...

Ol' Raj conveniently forgets the last 3 Cups have been won by warm-weather,
laid back, easy media markets with fairly passive fan bases.

The game is on tomorrow @ 4:00 on Fox Sports Net alternate. Second time
I've seen them televise a day-old game. Wonder why they're doing that?
Nothing good was on FSN tonight...
