One thing about Wilson-coached San Jose, and Anaheim... Blake is a Lone
Ranger at times, and Wilson coached teams seem to support those guys pretty
well. Think Thornton, think Kariya, think Selanne... He seems to get the
team focused on defensive play, and the goal scorers to go out and do their
thing. I think Blake will fit into a Wilson system much better than
Maurice's messy mashup of giving the puck away and trying to forecheck to
regain possession. Blake's a rushing, crease crashing type scorer who
looked like he was told to wait for the pass, stand still, and shoot.
I always got the feeling in interviews that Blake didn't like Maurice
either. Those Nolan comments were very candid.
I'm hoping for a much more productive Blake this season, especially if the
big guy is gone.
