and while your speaking to them, tell them to stop hiding themselves and
their weapons in churches, schools and residential neighborhoods. Real
freedom fighters dont wear masks and target children.

Maybe you shoulda called Ahmed Ghalab on his contemptible "brothers in
humanity" comment, too, the sexist pig.

I'll stick with my original repsonse Steph, both sides are equally at fault
but hiding amongst children is so f*ng low as to be beneath contemptible.
40 virgins my ass. If there IS a God, she has a big surprise for them.

Jesus Victor, that's either incredibly deep or impossibly lost- I'm
not sure which. :-)

Let me thread a little finer on this:

Is it the omniscience (or even the over-simplification) of historical
perspective that allows us to do sweeping statements about, for instance
WWII that we cannot pick out of present day situations?

Or is it that with the excess of "information"(take that word with much
salt) we have lost the ability to look at the basic situation without the
drapings (drapings sp? Xnews really needs an spell checker) around it.

To go back to my earlier example:

The French were doing nauseating things in Africa (and so were the
Brits). Things very much comparable to what the Germans were doing in
Europe. (I highly recommend the reading of "Exterminate all the
brutes"and "A History of Bombing" by Sven Lindqvist)

The noble and friendly people from Australia that came to the aid of the
good peoples had just finished the extermination of an entire race.

But the western hemisphere as a whole recognized that the facts were:

- an invasive or imperialistic agresion from one country (three,
actually) on others
- a genocidal attack from one country one a large sector of their own
people.

The fact that these "skeleton" truths were/are recognized with a degree
of ease, and were never afterwards (or before, see the Spanish Civil War)
recognized so easily and acted upon so decisively, seems to me an
indication of the increasing proficiency of the propaganda machinery on
all sides, rather than a statement on the actual situation.

Nobody says anymore: Such and such are Pricks - even religious
sanctimonious Pricks, but their country got invaded, their people got
masacred, or their resources co-opted against their will - or whatever...

We say: this guys are pricks and so are the others. And the overall
feeling is that somehow this is going to affect US negatively at some
point and we do not like it.

I do not know if I am making sense anymore :)
