I've been a casual fan of the Hawks for years now. I was wondering
what some of the people here think of Mike Smith. I recall reading an
article a few years back about how Mike Smith should have been given a
longer extension on his contract after he named The Hockey News (I
think that was the publication) Executive of the Year. I recall this
being after the 2001-02 season when the Hawks had a resurgence and
made the playoffs with 90+ points.

Thing is, I wonder if the Hawks thought that Smith wasn't really that
good, especially considering last season when they missed the playoffs
again. Has he done anything significant as of the last while to
attempt to pull the Hawks back to respectability again. What do fans
here in the newsgroup think of Smith's performance?

After tonight's brutal loss to the Thrashes, I see holes everywhere
and wonder what will be done to address them in the future.

Smith does whatever Bill Wirtz *asks*. Nothing more. So long as he
continues to play the role of Wirtzs' concubine, he may be here for a
long time. Look at Bob Pulford, the mans been nothing but a sycophant
for 20 something years... accomplished nothing.

Wirtz still doesn't understand (and never will) that the amount of
tickets he sells is directly proportional to the product he puts on
the ice.

I detest Mike Smith. All he's done is brought in either washed up Leafs
or heartless, alphabet soup, Eurotrash. Great way to generate interest in
a team, "Hey, let's go to the United Center and check out Vladimoriva
Kkeyznov". My guess is Smith is a lame duck GM this year, and will be gone
whenever (?) the labor dispute is finished.

Bill Wirtz kicks the bucket - Any chance the Hawks will start allowing televised home games?????
