Yes, the Sharks managed to look almost competent out there. :-)
Seriously, though, they did look better. Their passing was improved,
and I was impressed to see that a few players besides Thornton managed
to connect on several touch and long-distance passes. Incidentally,
for those of you who haven't been to a Sharks game in some time, or
who haven't had a chance to see one from the lower levels, I suggest
you do it at some point in the near future, because Thornton looks 5x
better from that angle. He's a dominant player by any definition when
you watch him on TV or from the upper decks, but when you watch him up
close he's *amazing.* Some of the passes he makes, and the way he sees
the ice is unreal.
But back to the game - it was a good effort all around. Nabby made
some unbelievable saves, their powerplay actually maanged to set up on
the first try (!!!), and they moved the puck around quite well. On the
other side, I was a little disappointed that they went with just one
forechecker for most of the night. Many times it was one guy running
arud the offensive zone while the other forwards drifted around the
points and the defensement waited in the neutral zone. For a team with
what is apparently a lot of speed and size, that doesn't seem like the
best strategy.
