I think it's amusing that at 1:05PM on the day of the Devils first game in
their beautiful new 375 million dollar arena, I went to Ticketmaster and was
still able to find tickets available for tonight's game.

What's even more amusing to me is that there are people out there who think
this move is the answer to the Devils pathetic attendance problems. Yes,
the attendance will certainly be way up for the next couple of
seasons until the novelty of the new building wears off. Then the team that
is arguably the best managed and most underappreciated in all of
professional sports will once again be playing in a half empty building.

I suppose one good thing will come from all of this. When the "experiment"
fails after a few seasons and attendance drops again, Devils management will
finally do what they should have done in the early 90's,
move the team to a better market.

of course, that's just my opinion.

Obviously these numbers are not perfect: they rely on attendance figures
reported by the NHL or the teams. They also don't include the
owner-bought tickets the two of you are whinging about.

Damn ... stop being so insulting ...
This Rangers fan of 50 years sure as hell can sound like he's seated
in a Junior High School cafeteria ... I think most of us are and have
shown that ability ... don't cut us short ...

At your service. PR and Marketing for this team is joke. All they need
to do is have a focus group with participants of the Devils NG, listen
to what we have to say and they'd be better off.

Wow, you sure showed the Devil fans. Outselling a team still doesn't get
you a free Stanley Cup, buying the entire Edmonton Oilers does though.

What happened that caused the Rangers to play a game in front of no one? :)
AC Milan fans show up and throw flares at Gomez?

But, they also do include comps, and the team ultimately can say what they
want. Tonight's game was not sold out, due to ineptitude. But, they said
it was, because it would have been if not for the Devils and Ticketmaster.

That's because the Devils are good at cutting their nose to spite
their own face. This game has been sold out on Ticketmaster for
months - held back for nonexistant future season ticket holders and
nonattending VIPs and then released four or so days ahead of the
game. It's crazy as a lot of folks did go on-line to try and buy tix
with not even singles available and then all of a sudden, tickets
galore 96 hours before the game. It may undercut the last minute
scalping but it also is bad timing in terms of attendance. In life,
timing is everything, so I hear.

That doesn't mean this team is going to solve its attendance problems
overnight, but without the new building, it doesn't get solved at all.
