LOL!

Check ebay prices for Opening Night tickets, especially the $20 seats.

Guess these douchebags don't quite undertsand there's a law in NJ
about scalping tickets. (brokers aside).

I'd LOVE to see one of these greedy season ticket holders scalping
them online for 10X face, sell them to undercover cops LOL!

Greedy douchebags. Actually, you can blame the Devils for giving these
people 2 extra shots at buying seats and reselling them.

Blame the Devils. Just because i can afford to pay the prices doesn't
mean i am going to. My wife and i are going on the 31st for $35 a
ticket. Fuck these people and the Devils for this garbage.

Giivng season ticket holders 2 more shots at cheap seats and they are
going on ebay for 10x face is the Devils fault. There's no reason to
do this. I mean what did they think the SH'ers were going to do? Give
them to friends? Haha!

There is a state law regarding scaping. I'd like to create a new ebay
account, buy them and not pay. At least doing this i'd have their
names and addreses, which would be a nice list to forward to the
proper authorities as they will have to relist the tickets as i
wouldn't pay for them. Besides, don't these clowns on ebay realize
they could sell to cops?

Now here's something to consider....say on opening night it isn't
filled due to the $95 tickets unsold on broker sites and ebay for
$500? Just because all tickets are sold doesn't mean it will be
filled. This happened on both retirement nights. I saw more then a few
empty seats lower level, yet tickets were 100% sold out.

If you ever want those $35 seats for just $32 ... let me know. I
probably will only use them for about half the games. Did I mention
they are in the front row of the section?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I've never understood why there should be laws against ticket scalping.
If I want to go to a game badly enough, and pay someone an extra $100
for two tickets, what's the problem?

It's an idiot tax.

They'll sell the place out on opening night with people pleading to buy
tickets, and then on Halloween, it'll be "Season Ticket Holders Only"
night, 13-14,000 tops w/ comps.

For the money they're paying, they could get a whole army of cheap
tickets throughout the season.

So, not only are our fans stupid, they're uppity too. :) They'll only
show up for events.

I'm not sure what ticketscalping laws are even in force these days.
Rangers season ticket holders can resell their tickets on a
Ranger-"sanctioned" Ticketmaster site for whatever the market bears.

I personally think scalping laws make some sense but only if they are
nationally uniform...otherwise it is a sieve. You could say they
serve some purpose in that they bridge supply and demand - like you
said if you wanted to pay an extra $100 or $200 or more for your
tickets, why should anyone care? Except that the scalpers would put
you at the disadvantage of paying the extra whatever by buying up all
the tickets at the getgo and then seeing how much you can be squeezed
for. Was it ok when service stations charged $5 and more a gallon
after Katrina 'cause that's what the market could bear?

So if you pay $150 for a $50 ticket, $50 goes to underwriting the cost
of providing the product and $100 goes some guy who was able to
prevent you from paying $50 in the first place.

Heh...I'm sure I take a few games, Neil.

There I sat this morning in front of the comp ready for a try to get
opening night tix. Got the page ready to click, look at the clock and
it's 8:57. Three more minutes. Tension is building. Will I score
decent seats and how...blip. Blank screen. Lights all off. Power
failure!

Back on at 10:30....opening night all sold out.

I saved myself a few $100.

I imagine that the original vendors are mad that a parasitic club of
horders has festered their way into all the tickets and if you want to
go to the event you have to go through them. You want to sell "Bob" a
$50 ticket to see your hockey club play, but along comes Vinny who
cuts to the front of the line to take Bob's ticket and then tell Bob
his choice is to buy it at $150 or sit at home.

And at what point do you consider something essential or not? Gas?
Milk? A new furnace? Your kid's birthday plans? All things really
need to look through the prism of common sense. Having a relatively
small cadre of people control a limited resource whether its oil or
tickets to an event, sequesters wealth, doesn't create it.

A few years back for opening night of 2001, I did both. Ebayed a pair
of opening night tickets and as the bids went up $50 bucks I added a
pair of tickets for later in the season. Ended up selling off 11
games. They took the proverbial snowy Tuesday night in January
against Chicago and got the good game too. Interestingly enough, a
number who make your argument Bob, don't bundle accordingly.

All scalpers do is add significant overhead to the cost of a ticket
for their service of blockcading the average fan from buying those
seats at face. That is the social value of scalping.

I don't think there's a direct parallel between gas gouging and ticket
gouging though. Gas is a short-term necessity. Without it, you can't get
to work, and you can't feed your family. No one has to go to an
entertainment event. If someone pays $2000 for a Hanna Montana show,
it's just because they don't want to listen to squealing from their
kids. Tickets also have a short-term demand trend that peaks and then
disappears. If resellers can't get their price, they had better lower it
quickly or be stuck with unsold inventory. If gas is $5/gallon and you
don't buy it today, you'll have to buy it tomorrow.

That said, I have no problem with constricting the original supplies so
that people have an initial fair chance to purchase event tickets. (No
scalpers skimming a block of 1000 from Ticketmaster.) But after that,
it's just a matter of setting market prices for non-essential items with
an expiration date, and scalping laws exist because the original vendors
are mad that they could've sold the tickets for more.
