Balsillie was told that under _no_ circumstances would he be allowed
to move the team. No other team in the league - or in any other
league - has such a clause in their contract with the league. This
is preposterous and was designed to screen him out of the picture,
for reasons unknown to us. It is clear, however, that if an
American were to move the team, he would not move it to Canada,
which Balsillie would consider doing. And in any case, no potential American
owner will be offered the same contract.

There is nothing that Balsillie said or did that indicated that he
had even the slightest intention of moving the team to Canada. That
was a rumour drummed up by the press, with the NHL possibly helping
out.
We live squarely in the area that would have been home to the
Penguins if all of the rumours were correct. And yet nobody in this
area is talking about it because everyone knows that it couldn't
possible happen. The Sabres, the Dead Things, and the Leafs
(especially) would never allow it.
cordially, as always,
