Is it just me or does John Paddock seem to be completely out of his depth as
head coach? I am getting this spooky feeling that the team is playing to
have him fired.

I can't remember watching a hockey team just go through the motions like
this team has the past few weeks. And to top things off, I'm finding that
I'm not enjoying watching them these days. I know, winning is easier to
take than losing, but it's just the total lack of commitment and passion
that makes watching them a real chore. No hits, no defense, minor league
calibre goaltending most nights, and blessed little offensive creativity
makes for a wasted 3 hours.

I'm flagging, but not quite ready to give up.

Truly, I have absolutely no confidence in John Paddock whatsoever, and
I've felt that way for months now. How the heck can a guy like that
actually communicate with the players? Seriously, this guy looks to me
like the "Chucky" version of Howdy Doody. He has no personality and
almost zero communication skills. Have you seen his post-game
interviews? He expresses himself mostly by sniffing and wheezing and
breathing hard into the microphone - it's hard to tell if it's a post-
game interview or an obscene phone call. If that's the way he
communicates with the players, it's no wonder they look unmotivated and
disinterested. The only thing Paddock inspires me to do is turn him off.
It wouldn't surprise me if the players are having the same experience...

I usually don't pick on mouth-breathers, but man-o-man, this guy gives them
a bad name.

What *is* it with Ottawa coaches? None of them in recent memory were very
good communicators. Martin, well, he was a walking cliché machine.
Murray - had an odd way of going off topic in the middle of a sentence.
And our man Paddock - simply a murderer of the English language and a master
of the mutilated analogy. I don't watch the post-game scrums but some of
the quotes in the papers are just unbelievable. I'm sure some of the
veteran players have to bite their tongues so they don't LOL during some of
his coaching sessions.

One of the guys in the Ottawa Citizen floated the idea that he was losing
the room. We might have our own little death watch here in Ottawa starting
up soon - just to add a little drama to pretty boring season (not!).
