Pawar and the BCCI coud still demonstrate that they do have a heart
under all those huge piles of cash, if they can make a token gesture
of a cash bonanza of at least Rupees. 20 Crores (200 million) for the
Indian hockey team as an appreciation for it becoming the champions in
the recently concluded Asian Cup at Chennai, India.
Out of the huge mountains of cash that has been pouring non-stop into
the BCCI coffers like the titanic waters of the Niagra, post-T20 WC
win by India, Rs.20 crore is indeed a very tiny morsel. Actually, the
BCCI could afford to give at least 50 to 70 crores, if not 100 crores
to other Indian sports. At least our national sport hockey deserves
that from cricket over and above the empty platitudes dished out
periodically by the Indian political establishment and the powers-that-
be of Indian sports regarding the things that they are going to do
about improving hockey.
Indian Cricket has thrived at Indian hockey's expense for a very long
time and if things continue the same way, all other sports will
become dead and buried and be relegated to Indian history pages; a
monumental tragedy IMHO if that indeed comes to a pass.
So Pawar & Co., here's a golden opportunity for you to show that you
do care and that you put your money where your mouth is. After all
those obscene amounts of cash that you have showered on your cricket
stars, this could be a great act by which you could win many friends
all over India and even at the FIH (International Hockey Federation)
which is now actively courting Indian hockey in order to tap its huge
market.
There is a line in the Hindu Vedas-Upanishads that extols charity:
Dhaane na dvishanto mitra bhavanti..
Which in very simple terms means: By charity (Dhaana) you can make
those that are envious of you, those that vilify you (dvishanto) and
those that are harbour enemity in their hearts for you into your well
wishers and friends (mitra)
