This is slightly off topic, but it will affect the Sharks, especially next
year. Edmonton sent a 21.5M/5 Year offer sheet to Dustin Penner, the Ducks
only RFA. The Ducks are currently at a $48M+ cap hit sans Penner, Selanne
and some minor UFAs, but does include Scott Neidermayer's 6.75M. So if
Burke matches the offer, he won't have the room for Neidermayer, if he
decides to come back!
As I said, this would be pretty funny, except next summer the Sharks will
have the following RFAs: Pavelski, Bernier, Goc, Michalek, Clowe, Carle, and
Ehrhoff. In addition, Marleau, Brown and Rismiller will be UFAs. Lowe has
"broken the code" here, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see some
raiders going after parts of the Sharks roster next season. The only
solution: Re-sign these guys before they become RFAs, or trade them... >> Stay informed about: Penner's offer sheet |

Or cash in on a bounty of draft picks. Am I missing something here or
is it pretty dumb of Lowe to do this on a less than superstar player
like Penner? Why not just let Penner go and rake in the draft picks?
Same thing for the Sharks, I don't know that if I was DW and got put
in a real bind by some other GM that I wouldn't just let any of the
RFAs go (barring some incredible leap in play this coming year) you
listed and take the picks. >> Stay informed about: Penner's offer sheet |

I guess I wasn't missing anything. Lowe has to be considered an idiot.
OK that was already clear a long time ago. >> Stay informed about: Penner's offer sheet |

Actually, this deal was good compared to the Vanek offer sheet. He would
have had to give Buffalo his next 4 first round picks!!! If I was Buffalo,
I would have let him have Vanek for 7.3M, and take the four 1sts, knowing
that they would probably turn out to be good picks with that sort of fiscal
(mis)management. >> Stay informed about: Penner's offer sheet |

The Ducks are looking like the closest thing possible to a new NHL era
dynasty. I don't think the absence of Penner is going to kill them. >> Stay informed about: Penner's offer sheet |
