I give him all the credit in the world for the wins....but he's still
a .500 goalie...IMO he would be better off staying between the pipes
instead of coming out to play the puck all the time. That ALWAYS seems
to cost us. Hell, now you see teams letting him play it and backing
off to play his pass which more often than not finds itself on the
other teams stick with DP scrambling to get back in goal while being
forced to stand on his head to make a save from his own giveaway....
I've been an Islander fan since Bossy got drafted and I'll say
this....Smitty, known for playing the puck, RARELY took the chances
that DP does!!!! Seems DP, for some reason, looks like he is unsure of
who's chasing the puck most of the time when he plays it in back of
the net. One huge difference between DP and Smitty is that Smitty
would take a look at who was crashing the boards before playing the
puck and if it's the opposition he treaded very lightly staying in
goal and trying to poke the puck with his stick.....DP just seems to
want to take ANYONE of the opposition on mono a mono (or due ) for
some ungodly reason and it costs us more than it helps us. This is
NOT the mark of a great goaltender....He'd be much better if he stayed
in the crease...
