About JJ's comments... - I just checked on the salary of Ottawa and Ottawa spent about 200 thousand less than the Bruins. Buffalo spent about 1.5 million less. The average team salary was 41.7 million. The B's spent about 43.7. Only 11 teams spent..

Yay! Allen and....who? - So we signed Allen and Byron (OK, Ballroom Blitz reference there!) NOW we are set. Wimper.

Byron Bitz Impressions - I was very fortunate in that I was able to attend several Cornell home games the last two years. I was aware that Byron Bitz was a Bruins draft choice, so I did pay keen attention to him. I can describe my of him as the second coming of..

Brad Stuart - I read that the B's lose the 4th Round Pick they got for Jurcina from because Stuart didn't re-sign with the Flames. So, we got nothing for Jurcina. Oh well, at least Stuart didn't get the big money he had hoped for, he really mailed it in last..

Jurcina/Boyes - lots of comments about these guys getting traded... Jurcina was +/- Bos -5 vs. Wash +5 Pts Bos 40 games 3 points vs. Wash 30 games 9 points Minutes per game Bos 10.42 Wash 23/24 mins per game too many games with St. Louis but was + 1 and..

Most of what I've seen has them finishing at 13 to 15th in the conference,
far from the goal of making the playoffs. Any opinions or predictions on
where they finish?

I've been trying to be objective with my thoughts about the B's and
their chances, but I keep thinking that if Julien can install his
system and get the guys to buy into it that it will go a long way
toward improving the team from last year when the system appears to
have been no system. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that
they will make the playoffs... it'll be close, but they'll make it,
and lose in the first round.

I want so bad to be positive about this year, it cant possibly be worse than
last can it?
The goaltending depth is better. The D is well who knows. The forwards have
to have better +- years don't they. I mean they cant be worse.
So I'll hope for 3rd in the division and hope that means 7 or 8 in the
conference but most likely they will finish out of the play offs.

DMC

BTW I am still not sure if I want my super sports package this year and for
me that's a bad sign it means I'm sick of seeing the B's play like the
leafs! ( no heart , no effort )

Either that or the prophet. In recent games they have shown lapses that are
so reminiscent of last season..

I think I'll go with Tom and EZ and pick 7th. I like the idea of the "box
plus one pursuit guy" defense if they can employ it. Anything is better than
what we've seen the last two seasons.

Nahhh. I'll go for 14th. Way too many questions at defense. Lack of
leadership on the roster.

The only thing keeping me interested at this point is to see how
Kessel develops, and how Krejci, Hunwick and Lucic fare if they make
the final cut.

In yet another sign of the demise of the franchise - I got 4 of the
best seats in the house for Sunday's preseason game. I offered them
for free to roughly 10 people with no takers. And the Pats aren't
even playing. Excuses ranged from "I'm going apple picking" (heard
that one twice) to "going to a toddler's b-day party" to "washing my
hair".

Yep, this is the least amount of excitement/expectation I've had in
about 11-12 years.

Every year you hear the same things right about now, the only
difference being the B's this summer did little in the offseason to
improve off of two seasons at the bottom of the heap. Fernandez is a
slight upgrade. Other than that it's a different coach (that hasn't
changed much year over year), some expectations the new bench boss can
improve things, etc.

I might have been a little harsh with 14th. 10th in conference is
probably a bit more realistic. But only after they go on a 10 game win
streak at the end of the season to pull themselves out of prime draft
position for 2008.

their success will all depend on how well they can play defensively, julien
has to install the devils system, and the guys have to buy into it.
