Since the Rangers appear desperate for defenceman, who are the Rangers that
are of interest?

This is about all I can think of:

Dan Blackburn:
Jamie Lundmark
Nigel Dawes
Draft Picks

Blackburn and Lundmark are both hurt. Nigel Dawes is tiny, but I though he
was Canada's best player in the WJC.

I would presume Smith is available. I've always liked him but he UFA days
are coming soon and he could fetch a decent price from a team needing some
depth on D.

Blackburn is on the verge of joining DiPietro on the Island
in the didn't-pan-out department. Lundmark or Dawes may
be gotten for Salo and a pick (don't forget that the Rangers
are in need of better G).

I try not to let patriotism get in the way but it'd be nice
to see Salo and Turek go to the Rangers for Lundmark
and Dawes (flip a coin as to who's an Oiler or a Flame).
Dunham and Blackburn could go to Washington for
Kolzig, who the Rangers can flip for a great D-man.

Trading for a currently injured D like Smith would stir things up even more
in NY if thats possible. Sather and Mess are public enemy 1 and 1A out
there.

I'd do it for Dawes and Lundmark. Maybe even straight up for either with
some drafts but I don't know how good those drafts will be. Last nights
ranger debacle aside I think they will rally and make the playoffs leaving
us with bad picks just like in the Philly deal. I don't like any of the
Ranger goalies.

The trade wouldn't actually happen until Smith is healthy & cleared to
skate - even then, the Rangers could make it conditional on their
doctors giving Smith the green light.

I'm not sure about the Rags making the playoffs this year, although it
increasingly (and frustratingly) looks like they'll have a better chance
than the Oilers.

Blackburn might be a decent pickup, though - he and Conklin could split
duties next year, then Blackburn takes over as #1 with Ty backing up,
and eventually Deslauriers is the backup, then (hopefully) #1 later.

The rags WILL make the playoffs. I have a theory on this(and uh, almost
anything else <G>) I'll post it in a new thread- well, maybe, er..... not so
sure how much I want to go out on the limb for a team like that!

I like Lundmark and Dawes they both look like *can't miss* to me. I've seen
Blackburn stink up the place as much as the other rags. They have the
absolute worst goaltending that I have ever seen in pro hockey.(California
Golden Seals excluded) Whatever happened to Dunham? He's just awful.
