So, after throwing a cry-baby tantrum at yesterday's practise, Ray shows
up late (again) at today's practise... but wait, he's "sick" today, so he
leaves. Yeah, I know Paddock told him to beat it and go home, but I
can't help but get the feeling nobody wanted to deal with his BS again
today. Personally, I figure what this guy needs most, aside from
practise, is a personality adjustment and a reality check. He'd better
smarten up or he'll be forced to threaten seniors on somebody else's
parkway next year.

I think you're right on the button. However I also think he's really
pushing it now, and even his team-mates are getting irritated with his
shenanigans.
"One of the players hung a necktie in Emery's place in the empty net
where the backup goalie was supposed to be yesterday during practice at
Scotiabank Place."
http://www.ottawasun.com/Sports/Senators/2007/12/29/4744312-sun.html
He sure can be entertaining though. I thought one of his best ones was
when he took on Marty Biron and then took on big Andrew Peters last
season, and all you could see was that big ear-to-ear grin on his face.
Too funny!

Actually, I think Emery is a guy who could probably shine in Toronto with
the huge fan base and all the media attention. He's very flamboyant and
loves the spotlight, and I'll bet he'd be a fan favourite in no time (as
long as he behaved himself within reason).

I disagree. I believe he would struggle with the media attention here. You
got to remember, he is on a great hockey team in Ottawa. There is a
collective "media love in" for the Sens right now. He might not be playing
much, but the media isn't swarming on the Sens horrible play because they
are a top 3 team in the NHL. When it comes to playing in Toronto and the
team on the ice is winning its an amazing place to play. Players get
treatment from the city normally reserved for big rock or movie stars.. But
when things are up and down like they are this year, its not alot of fun for
anyone. Just in the past year, you could go ask Bryan McCabe, Andrew
Raycroft, Jeff O'Neill, Nik Antropov, and most recently Jiri Tlusty. Newly
acquired Vesa Toskala was being criticized for his play in training camp
this past September. YES TRAINING CAMP!! Its nuts here. Its too much.
I like Emery, his mean streak makes him an incredible entertaining player
to watch. But with his track record of being an immature stupid fool off
the ice, he'd be preyed upon by the leafs media paparazzi here. The other
reality is.. for every reporter that covers the Sens full time in Ottawa...
there are 10 Leaf reporters here.
So i am willing to bet that Emery would quickly tire of the all the extra
media attention he would be getting win or lose in this city... If Emery
was playing poorly as hypothetically the Leafs starter... lets just say..
"theres no where to run." The Leafs media vultures would swarm him, after
every game, every practise... follow him home... Talk about him 24 hours a
day on the local all sports radio station, plus be on the news every
night... and on and on and on.
Happy New Year.

Yow! I knew the media was intense in Toronto, but I didn't realize it was
'that' intense! With what you describe, I see what you mean about it
being too much for Ray, at this stage of his life/career anyway. He's 25
and reminds me of a 15-year-old sometimes. In terms of maturity, Sidney
Crosby could be his dad. Hopefully, he'll "get it" eventually, but I'm
not holding my breath.
Happy New Year to you too! We can start the year off with 3 good hockey
games today! I'm through with predictions though...

You know what? It's not entertaining anymore. I find myself wishing
that Gratts had broken his nose just so he'd be out of the picture for a
while and we wouldn't have to hear about his grade-school antics, at
least for a while. In my opinion, he's turned himself into a significant
distraction and he's hurting the team. Admittedly, his childish
immaturity might be more tolerable if he was really good. But he's not.
I'm thinking that if he doesn't start playing like a young Dominik Hasek
in the foreseeable future, he'll be playing somewhere else at the first
opportunity. Let's face it - the guy's got it made here and he's too
stupid to realize it. Nice mask, but there's probably an echo in there
when it's on his head.
