It's a sure sign to focus on Hockey to dull the pain. Last season it was
after the 5 game sweep; this season it's now. In the Spring the Sox save us
from the B's when they let MTL humiliate them. It pays to be a fan of both. >> Stay informed about: Red Sox see Yankees...... |

A five game lead in September (which hasn't happened anytime in the last
several years) and the best record in baseball, and its time to focus on
the *BRUINS*?!?
You can do what you like, but I am going to put off hockey season as
long as possible...there is plenty of oomph left in the Sox season
before I am ready for the puck to drop on the dog's breakfast that will

The pain of that series was easily erased with Saturday's masterpiece
and Sunday's great win with 5 rookies in the lineup. Ten (twenty,
thirty, etc.) years from now people will still be talking about
Bucholz's no-hitter. Think about it...I was only 2 in '67 but still
have heard about the Billy Rohr game like it was yesterday for the
past thirty some odd years.
Now for the bitter side - could someone please slap the ex-traffic
reporter Tina Cervasio. Her interview with Bucholz was nothing short
of shallow and stupid - "what was the SCARIEST moment out there
tonight?" Scariest? You couldn't come up with something a little
better than that? >> Stay informed about: Red Sox see Yankees...... |

I agree totally about the Tina Report. Not just that it was shallow
and stupid
but the it had to happen at all. Give the kid a chance to compose
himself a
little. Why do they have to throw a mike in the guy's face before he
even gets
to the dugout? Hard to turn something so special into an awkward &
embarrassing
moment, but leave it to the media, they can make anything a negative.
As for erasing the pain, nothing does that for me when the Yankees
kick sand in
the Sox faces. The miracle of '04 is now clearly just that. I hoped it
would even the
playing field, turn the tide on Yankees/Red Sox. But last year's 5
game massacre
in the Fens in August and this years totally unexpected sweep last
week fill me with
fear about the 3 game series coming up. Right now the Yankees are
still the Sox daddy.
Maybe the plan is to play all the rookies because they won't know any
better and may
pull out a game in that series. >> Stay informed about: Red Sox see Yankees...... |

The Sox are still the best team in baseball.
How did you feel in April when the Sox took 5 out of 6 from the Yanks?
Those wins count. They are actually the difference in the two teams in
the standings right now.
The Sox are 7-8 against the Yanks. They have 3 games left, at home, the
weekend after next.
The Yanks were able to gird their loins in front of the home crowd for a
three game set. But the cracks are evident, just look at today, Clemens
got beat up and out comes Mussina to pitch in relief.
It ain't all that bad...if this is how people react when the Sox have
been the best team in baseball pretty much all year...how could you ever
expect to be satisfied by anything they could do? >> Stay informed about: Red Sox see Yankees...... |

It definitely seems that the Sox are intimidated by the Yanks. Yankees
played crummy before that series and afterward lost 2 of 3 to Tampa Bay and
are currently losing to Seattle with Clemens looking all of his 45 years and
Mussina not impressing in the bullpen. The Sox didn't bring their "A" game
with them both on the mound and at the plate. That's disheartening. One more
series left with NY and let's see if they fall apart again. >> Stay informed about: Red Sox see Yankees...... |

They blistered the Yanks in April. Two very good teams that get up for
each other because they are in one of the biggest rivalries in pro sports. >> Stay informed about: Red Sox see Yankees...... |

Well, I felt good but the Sox usually do well against them early in the
season and the Yanks seem to have the edge late.

It's not all that bad. It's just that you hate to see them lose to the evil
empire. Until they start losing again we have to listen to all the Yankees
fans run around talking about how they are "charmed". >> Stay informed about: Red Sox see Yankees...... |

Yanks fans, if they are smart, should be very, very quiet right now.
Especially with Mussina being a retread right now, Clemens getting an
MRI, and the team falling flat on their 200 million dollar asses... >> Stay informed about: Red Sox see Yankees...... |

Not a real Sox fan, are ya Smacky? Or is it you are removed from the
area?
NO ONE talks about wins in April to a Yankee fan. It makes them laugh
so
hard.
Do you know how many times the Sox have been the best in baseball up
until
August? Get the history book out.
Were you watching in '74 or '77 or '78. How about with 2 outs, no one
on game 6
in '86? 2000, Yankees 22-1 in Fenway. Game 7 '03 ring a bell? August
18-21, 2006,
"Son of Massacre"? Just a few of my favorite memories. >> Stay informed about: Red Sox see Yankees...... |

Really? Because in the last 4 or 5 years, I don't see much for a Yankee
fan to laugh about. Especially this year in specific.
>

I am well versed in Sox history. I also know that is the past...most of
it the distant past. And what is more relevant, the present and the
recent past, is pretty F'in rosy for the Sox...including this year when
the division is in the bag and the Sox have been the best team in
baseball pretty much all year.
And for all of the hoopla about their performance since the All Star
break, there are only two teams with better records in that time frame,
the Yanks by a couple of games...and the D-Backs, by a fraction of a
percentage point.
> Were you watching in '74 or '77 or '78.
Not really...games were tough to come by in my neck of the woods at that
time. However, if you are going to rely on negatives that far in the
past, should I assume that the Bruins are going to win the Cup this year
because they won in 72?
> How about with 2 outs, no one on game 6 in '86?
Yup. That was a World Series game though, so I would say that, by
definition, that season was pretty successful, all things considered.
And it is also the distant past.
> 2000, Yankees 22-1 in Fenway.
22-1 and 2-1 are the same thing...a loss.
> Game 7 '03 ring a bell?
Yup. The playoffs. So that season was pretty successful overall.
And let's not forget, I was talking about the Sox having a very
successful season so far...they are the best in baseball and are pretty
much a lock to win the division and wind up with home field advantage in
the playoffs.
> August 18-21, 2006,

Hmm...you seem to have forgotten a year or two in there. Let me
see...2004, I will have to Google how the Sox did that year.
Hey, they played the Yankees in the playoffs. Oh, and hey...they won
that series in 7 games. Jeez, as I look closer, they were down 3-0 in
the series...they got pummelled in game 3...and they closed the series
in Yankee Stadium.
That seems to be a much more significant victory than some of the ones
you mentioned...I would have guessed that would have made your list of
favorite memories...I know its on mine. >> Stay informed about: Red Sox see Yankees...... |

We were speaking mostly of Red Sox vs.Yankees.
Recent history? The Yankees have won the division the last 9 years.
Guess
who was second to them every year? Sox were in first place in August 4
of those years.
I was at game 1 of the original "Boston Massacre", 15-2, 12-0 after 3
innings.
I was at game 3, 2004, 19-8.
I was at game this April when A-Rod homered off Papelbon to win.
Original history? I started following the Sox in 1959. Between '59 and
'66
(I was 6 in 59') the Yankees were Michael Vick and the Sox were the
losing dogs.
And in central Connecticut, there were plenty of friends & family that
were arrogant
bastard (with good reason) Yankee fans. See where I'm comin' from,
Doc?
My favorite Red Sox-Yankee story (that teaches us much about the
rivalry):
I was listening to a game in the early 90's (maybe 80's?) and the Sox
were
ahead 4-3, 2 outs in the 9th, runner on first. As always, no chickens
were counted
until the Yankees would make the final out. Grounder to 2nd, throw to
first, ball game
is over, Sox win.... Wait, a fan had run out on the field and time had
been called by the
third base ump. 3 singles later, Sox lose. Even when it appears to be
over, make sure
those Goddamn Yankees are really, really dead.
2004? Like I said before, a true miracle. >> Stay informed about: Red Sox see Yankees...... |

And the Sox made the playoffs in 03, 04, 05 and this year. Oh, and
there was that World Series win that featured the greatest comeback in
baseball history, versus the Yankees.
<snip>

Like I said, the past means nothing to the present. If it did, the
Bruins would be contenders this year because they were a strong team for
so many in the past. >> Stay informed about: Red Sox see Yankees...... |
