NASHVILLE PREDATORS SIGN DEFENSEMAN MAREK ZIDLICKY
Nashville, Tenn. (September 15, 2004) - Nashville Predators Executive
Vice President/General Manager David Poile announced today that the
club has signed defenseman Marek Zidlicky (MAIR-ehk zhihd-LIHTS-kee).
In keeping with club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Zidlicky, 27 (2/3/77), established franchise records in power-play
points (9g-26a-35pts) and points by a defenseman (14g-39a-53pts) in
2003-04. The first-year blueliner finished fourth in the NHL in
power-play points, tied for fourth among NHL defensemen in points and
assists and tied for third among rearguards in power-play goals.
The 5-11, 190-pound native of Most, Czech Republic also led Nashville
in power-play goals, ranked second in scoring and tied for second on
the club in game-winning goals (four). He is one of four Predators to
appear in all 82 games in 2003-04 and he became the first player in
franchise history to record a point in each of his first six games
with the club. The blueliner played for the Czech Republic in the 2004
World Cup of Hockey and tied for second in defensemen scoring (behind
only Nashville's Kimmo Timonen) in the tournament with four points
(1g-3a) in five games.
Zidlicky was acquired by Nashville from the New York Rangers (with Rem
Murray and Tomas Kloucek) for Mike Dunham on December 12, 2002. He was
originally drafted with the Rangers' sixth choice (sixth round), 176th
overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
