Schenn is a Leaf - Foote is UFA - Should the buds make a pitch for UFA Adam Foote to tutor him along? I am not talking about offering him a monstrous amount of money, but maybe a 2.5 million a season deal for 3 years and see if he bites. There might be an opening on the

Preds to Kansas? - Just caught a news report on Y108 that said the Preds are being sold to A owner for 190M. Plans are to move to Kansas City. I guess the Bulldogs won't have any -- ..snork

48 Free Agents signed so far - 48 as of this time and date, and when you include the players otherwise moved in trades, that averages out to almost 2 players per team. How many rookies will make each team, on average? More than before because the teams will be looking to sign players

Now THAT is a hometown discount - Iginla barely 30 and in the prime of his career signing for $5m - yeah, that's a hometown discount allright. The deal Sundin signed near the end of his... it sure isn't one, no matter what his agent or MLSE keep telling us.

That's freaking great. Luke Schenn! 6'3", 212lbs (at 18 years old... he's
got more room for muscle), compared to Adam Foote by TSN's Draft Prospects
Thingy... The words being thrown around to describe him are "Human Eraser",
"Physical Edge", "Franchise Player", "Defensive Defenseman"...

He'll play for the Leafs this season. I can't wait. It's been awhile since
opposing teams felt they had to keep their head up going into the Leafs
zone.

Getting Schenn was excellent. The trade stunk. Shmaft used up two
+one picks on draft day. No problems here if Barndoor Wilson had been
the Man (and kept the one+one). Flinch 'had' to win a bidding war (a
very familiar pattern).

The other issue is playing time for Schenn. McCabe, Kaberle, Kubina
(reglowed by Wilson), Stralman, Cola (health?). There's one spot
open ... Aki Berg's old haunt on the Left Side.

I can understand the move up if the choice was Boedker - snipers take
more flak than flowers in TO. And TO loves big D-guys. But in the
armsnlegs race, do you think the Leafs kept up with the competition
for both depth and talent? (From here they thinned when they should
have counted their ruff-gems and kept adding).

The heart of the matter is Schenn moving up a few spots in recent
months. It made him look very shiny, didn't it?

Yup, agree Ken. The Leafs haven't had a stud D man in decades. Burning
the 2 & 3 picks were worth this sure thing. Great move by Cliff.

It is a start anyway. We may not see much of this guy next year unless
you have Marlies tickets. 18 year old D men are rare.

Hey, deals like this is why i was praying the Leafs would unload players at
the deadline when the price tags for just about anyone was super inflated.
Dumping a second to move up to get a player like Schenn is far easier for me
to swallow then dumping a second rounder for Yanic Perrault who played 13
games for the Leafs and wasnt re-signed. When you rebuild, you get as many
picks as possible, because it gives you flexability to move up like the
Leafs did tonight and take whomever the covet. If Schenn is as good as
advertised, this might be a steal down the road. I must admit i hate
listening to McGuire. Pierre loves every move, every trade and every
prospect. He is so over the top i want to puke.

Still cant figure out the Mayers deal.

Tunnel.

Still convinced that those 5D are plan A? If it aint McCabe, it'll be Kabs
or Kubina. One's going. Hopefully two. Leafs D is porrous, has been for
years. If there's a market, sell.

From here they got exactly what they needed... a 200+lb franchise cork.

If you're trying to knock Schenn, look elsewhere. The kid's good, no,
great. It was Doughty that changed his game. All Schenn did was get
bigger. The kid's been nothing but nailz for two years now. He's the real
deal, and exactly the kind of player the Leafs needed.

Hopefully two? Kabs is a keeper. Kubina got great feedback from
Wilson, and McCabe is saying play me or buy me out. I don't think
they're moving. Either McCabe or Kubina going would open a spot for
Schenn. I'm not too keen on slowing down Stralman's development.
There's a 4-lane audit trail figuring White and Cola, for different
reasons, are the assets to trade.

It sure looks like that's the page Cliff was on.

mmm, nope. Schenn was the guy you threw out for discussion, and I was
on board from then to now. They got a very very good prospect.

We see it differently. I was ready for moves that would add draft
choices instead of go the same ol' shmaft road. Kings, Isles, and
Devils, all seemed to have a better Clue book than TO. The Org again
laid out the direction and then went the opposite way.

Best line I heard at the draft was the first time LA got up. Did the
usual fan-thanking, and then told them to stay tuned for the picks -
"We have about a hundred of them." That was great.

PQuinn won. There was a decent chance every game they were going to

in January not so much).

I know you are referring to Fletcher...
But what the hell is FLINCH in reference too?
