I've been gifted a ticket to this weekends game, Sens and Devils.

I have a Canon S3 IS with a telephoto converter lens (it's not big) that I
plan to bring in a camera bag barely larger than the camera.

According to the link here
http://www2.scotiabankplace.com/eng/guest/policies.cfm they don't allow
digital cameras. Are they strict about this? will they turn me away?

What if I brought my little fuji digital cam that fits in my pocket?

I have no interest in recording video, but I guess that is what they are
concerned about.

All I can say is that, in my experience, they're strict about their
policies and they're vigilant too. I went to a game with a group of
people and one guy had a bottle of water in his jacket pocket.
Unfortunately for him, the end of the bottle was sticking out and they
wouldn't even let him in the arena unless he dumped it. You could take
your chances, but it may be that you'd be asked to leave if you get
caught...

Well, as a photographer, I have contacted them directly regarding
these issues. You will be permitted to bring in a camera on several
conditions.

1. It must not have a detatchable lens. Meaning, no to your
telephoto Canon S3 IS. It's not that it has a detatchable lens, but
it looks like it does, and that will be enough for them to check.
2. You can bring your small point and shoot camera, and they usually
don't say much as they don't give as good a picture.
3. Don't use the flash on the camera. It won't help you anyway, and
if they see a flash go off, they could ask you to leave.

The reasons for this are that they have paid photographers taking
photos for the newspapers/magazines/promotion etc that work in there.

This is what I was told by the people at Scotiabank place directly.

So unless you are a member of the press, don't bother trying to bring
in a fancy camera ;-)

Heh. Well, I'm not sure if a S3 IS would qualify as fancy. It is nowhere
near a professional dSLR, but it does have a pretty good base optical zoom
(12x or 420mm equiv without the telephoto) and it does shoot video with
audio. It does fit in my rather large winter jacket pockets so I could skip
the bag and teleconverter adapter lens to be descrete. Maybe if I waited
until closer to the end of the game to snap a few photos? :-) I'm not
even sure where I'm sitting yet either.

Ohwell, I'll weigh the risks and decide before I go what I will do.

Thanks for the input both of you.

Just an FYI for future game attenders, I wore in on my neck going in and
they didn't care at all. I did not bring the teleconverter though.
