what's your opinion on that?

Brad Stuart, Los Angeles Kings (unrestricted free agent)
Once upon a time, the third overall pick in the 1998 entry draft was considered one of the cornerstones of the San Jose Sharks' blue line. Dealt to Boston in the Joe Thornton deal, Stuart didn't fit in Boston, or later in Calgary, and has languished like many of the Kings in Los Angeles. He is minus-14 and has just four goals. Still, he has tools and could help fill out a playoff roster for the Rangers or even in San Jose, where coach Ron Wilson is familiar with Stuart's abilities.

He would add little. In fact, unless the Sharks got some terror on
defense, who ignored all the rules and had Bobby-Orr tendencies, it's
hard to see how a any defenseman could alter things significantly.

Now, some may consider this opinion overly pessimistic, but the Sharks
have shown themselves for 15 years to be unable to marshall an attack
around a skate-it-out-of-zone defenseman and multi-forward rush.
There's no way Stuart is going to bring that ability or alter any of
Ron Wilson's in-game strategies, so in the end it matters little.

The Sharks, actually, have several guys who can handle the puck pretty
well: Vlasic, Carle, Rivet, Ehrhoff. It matters not because their
strategy is to get it out of zone as quickly as possible, whether or
not they retain possession. Even when they maintain posession,
defensemen hang back, rather than leading attacks.

Until they change their whole mindset, the roster changes will not
alter much, IMHO.

I don't think the Sharks need any fill-out-the-roster type of
defensemen. They've got Rivet, Carle, Vlasic, Ehrhoff, Murray, and
McLaren as a core 6. They have 3 marginal players in Ozo, Semenov, and
Davison.

No need for a warm body, it's get a big gun or stay pat at D.
