Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Former Tampa Bay coach John Tortorella
might be heading to San Jose as the team has reportedly sought permission
to speak to him.
Citing unnamed sources, TSN of Canada posted on its website that the
Sharks are interested in speaking to Tortorella about filling the position
that has been vacant since the team fired former coach Ron Wilson after
the team's semifinal loss to Dallas this past playoff season.
Tortorella led the Tampa Bay Lightning to a Stanley Cup championship and
won the Jack Adams Award in 2004. However, he was fired by the team on
Tuesday after the Lightning finished dead last in the NHL this season.
He took over behind the bench with 43 games remaining in the 2001-02
season and finished his tenure in Tampa Bay with a record of
239-222-36-38.
