ATLANTA (August 12, 2005) -- The Atlanta Thrashers have re-signed
restricted free agent forwards Stephen Baby and Kevin Doell, and
goaltender Michael Garnett, according to Executive Vice President and
General Manager Don Waddell. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Baby, 25, finished with nine points (six goals, three assists) and 115
penalty minutes in 64 games with Chicago (AHL) last season. The 6-5,
230-pound right wing helped the Wolves reach the 2005 Calder Cup Finals,
notching 12 penalty minutes in six playoff games.
The native of Chicago has earned 35 points (20 goals, 15 assists) and
187 penalty minutes over the past two seasons with the Wolves. Baby, who
was selected by the Thrashers in the seventh round, 188th overall, in
the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, registered 115 points (29 goals, 86 assists)
and 201 penalty minutes in 134 games at Cornell University (ECAC) from
1999-2003.
Doell, 26, split last season between Chicago and Gwinnett (ECHL),
notching 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in 45 games with the
Wolves, and 15 points (six goals, nine assists) in 11 games with the
Gladiators.
The 5-11, 190-pound center ranked third among ECHL rookies with a team-
best 74 points (33 goals, 41 assists) in 63 games with Gwinnett in 2003-
04. The native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan has recorded 14 points (five
goals, nine assists) in 53 career AHL games with Chicago, and 89 points
(39 goals, 50 assists) in 47 ECHL games with Gwinnett from 2003-05.
Doell, who signed with Atlanta as a free agent on June 30, 2004,
collected 136 points (62 goals, 74 assists) in 158 games at the
University of Denver (WCHA) from 1999-2003.
Garnett, 22, posted a 11-9-0 record, 2.86 goals-against average and .911
save percentage in 24 games with Chicago (AHL) in 2004-05. The 6-1, 200-
pound goaltender posted a 2-0 record, a 1.50 GAA and a .957 save
percentage in two playoff appearances, helping the Wolves reach the 2005
Calder Cup Finals.
The native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan ranked third in ECHL with 2.14 GAA
and with 21 wins with Gwinnett, and posted a 7-3-2 record, 2.62 GAA and
..915 save percentage in 13 games with the Wolves in 2003-04. Garnett,
who was selected by the Thrashers in the third round, 80th overall, in
the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, registered a 16-15-0 record, 3.41 GAA and .895
save percentage in 38 games in his professional debut with Greenville in
2002-03.
