DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU ON THE WAY OUT!
(THE OIL PATCH)

It's official. Assistant coach Craig Simpson will be leaving the
Oilers bench for a high-profile position on Hockey Night in Canada.

Good riddance.

For a coach that was hired to improve the Oilers powerplay, or for
whom GM Kevin Lowe and bench boss Craig MacTavish consider to be a
powerplay specialist, Simpson has clearly been a big disappointment.

Even with the likes of Chris Pronger and Ryan Smyth in 2006 on his
team, the Oilers were mediocre at best on the powerplay and last
season when he had loads of offensive talent, the Oil was at the
bottom of the NHL barrel.

Simpson can now worry making sure he has enough gel in his hair
before he’s on the air rather than writing Xs and Os on a whiteboard
talking his way through a useless special plays in front of his players.

Now the Oilers can hire someone else in their so called boys' club.
How about Peter Klima or Esa Tikkanen? Why not call Dave Semenko a
powerplay specialist?

Can you imagine an interview with Semenko after an Oilers game?

“So Semenko, why didn’t the Oilers execute on the powerplay?”

“I like soup,” will say Semenko.
